Lube tune and breach seals CFX
« on: January 16, 2007, 01:51:43 PM »
In the near future I plan on taking the CFX apart and performing a lube tune.  I believe I have read on this forum that if it is your first time replacing the rolling breach you would not get it back in without damaging the seal.

I guess my question is: should I purchase several seals before I attempt this??  If so where do I buy them??

Thanks Guys,

Perry

P.S. Daved and the rest.  I have been bitten by the bug.  I have two air rifles and have spent more than twice the price of both rifles in accessories.  Thinking of buying another rifle and have not even broken in these two yet.

It's all your faults!!  All of you guys.  At least thats my story and I'm sticking to it..

Thanks Fellows,

Perry

If it aint broke don't mess wiff it. That seal is not normally replaced in a tune. Only if you spring a leak there. If at all possible do not even go there..:)

I probably wouldn't, but there is a ridge around the leading edge of the loading port area of the breach.  I figured once I had it apart I would smooth and blend it away.  It inhibits the loading of the rifle.

Thanks,

Perry

Gee, Perry, sorry about that...NOT :-)!  Here's a thought, rather than buy another gun and tune your CFX, kill two birds with one rifle and get a gas ram!  Sorry, guys, don't want to hijack Perry's post, but I've got some impressive numbers to post elsewhere, so I'm kind of psyched right now.

Perry, I'd leave that ridge alone.  It acts as sort of a bearing for the front of the rotary.  There's a matching ridge around the back of the rotary as well.  Considering the headaches I've had with mine, if you don't need to remove it, DON'T!  However, if you choose to ignore my impeccable advice :-), I'd like to know if the rear seal is anything other than a simple o-ring.  The most recent exploded diagram I've been able to find shows that seal as more rectangular in cross section.  If so, it probably seals better than mine.  HTH.

Actually, he never did say.  But it's definitely over 12, I just got 15+.  And it seems to be increasing the more I shoot it.  Besides, you just got ANOTHER S1K that NEEDS a gas ram!  And just so you don't have to bother Bob, you can send all the parts to me, I'll be more than happy to put it all together and test it out for you.  Shouldn't take me more than 3 or 4 months :-).  Seriously, I think you'd be impressed, and with a Shadow or Hunter, I suspect you'd get more power than the CFX.  And it certainly doesn't seem to be hurting my accuracy any, either.  AND, with all the guns you've got, there isn't a gas ram in the bunch.  Tsk, tsk!  Later.

Dave

PS Did some shooting with the 350 last night, either the gun's settling down or I am.  Only had the energy for a couple of groups, but managed just over 1/4" at 10 yards.  Now if I could just stretch out my range a little...
