cf-x bore

Ok, so I sent my cf-x down south to get some work done and in the meantime did some research on some perceived issues. My cfx has the serial numbers on the receiver, not the barrel, kind of on the side and it ends in 05.  After some research, I learned that those were notorious for having oversized bores, does anyone have experience with this? Charlie said the issue was kind of exaggerated but is still an issue and that I should look for oversized pellets that fit a little snug, which is the basis of this post, does anyone know of a .177 pellet that is notoriously "oversized" or a snug fit in normal bores? I've asked him to check it out but I dont know if you can tell at all but we'll find out. I just bought this thing in december at dick's so they had some old old stock I guess. The perceived issues were an excessive twang, plainly audible and excessive vibration, after 100 round session my hands felt like I had been running a weedeater for an hour. Of course I have no other gun to compare but it seemed abnormal, not to mention my accuracy issues ( which is probably me) AND my earlier report of low velocities using CPLs the math doesnt look good! I must have a record for new member posts by now, thanks for any insight you can provide.

I believe JSB Exacts come in different sizes, like 4.50, 4.51, 4.52mm.  I have never used them, but I am under the impression that these are pretty darned good pellets, and accurately sized.  You can obviously take a pellet and push it through the bore of your gun with a small wooden dowel to feel how tight it is, and what will fit snug.  Kinda hard on a CFX without the gun disassembled though:(  I've done that on a couple of my guns, and when the pellet finally pops out you can see the rifling marks, unless it's loose...then it might just fall through:)

Someone from the CFX crew will probably chime in before I help you ruin your gun:)

Good luck, and check out those JSB's!

My CFX has the SN on the receiver, too, but the whole "over sized" barrel has all the impact of a fart in a hurricane.  In my opinion, at least.  Far as I know, the only real impact is the guns preference in pellets.  The consensus on the YF is that the "tight" bores like CPL's, FTS's, and Kodiaks.  The "over size" bore tend to do better with JSB Exacts and RWS Superdomes.  But that's a generalization, every gun is unique.  And from what I've been able to gather, either barrel is capable of excellent accuracy, with the right pellet.  BTW, the JSB Exacts are available in several different head diameters, if you decide to try them, DON'T order them from Pyramyd!  Get them from one of the suppliers that lets you choose head diameter.  4.52 mm is the size most CFX's that like Exacts prefer.  I've got them in 4.50, 4.51, 4.52, and 4.53.  The first 2 are lousy in my gun, the 4.52's tend to be very consistent and accurate, with the 4.53's almost as good.  Superdomes aren't quite as accurate, but they pack more punch, even though they weigh the same.  Go figure.  I've never tried Kodiaks in my gun, never saw any need to risk a spring with what I was getting with lighter pellets.  May try them now with the gas ram, but don't really expect much.  Good luck, and keep posting.

LOL Dano, thats cool.

Dave, thats where I ordered my JSBs so that sucks, I was gonna get a sampler from SS but I wasnt sure what all they have in it and I dont see a list on their site, I can pretty much guess 12-15 of them but the rest would be interesting to know. Im not sweatin it but it is gonna make the search for the best pellet a little more time consuming...thanks

I agree on the bore not being any different on the CFX's, it’s a non issue for sure.
If you take a small flash light and look into the breach end of the barrel you will see no rifling for the first .200 thousands or so and the loose pellet deal is not the rifling in the barrel it’s the lead in hole that Gamo puts there so you can get a pellet in the hole.

If you look at a break barrel Gamo the rifling comes right to the end of the barrel because it’s so easy to insert the pellet but with the loading block I think gamo did this on purpose to ease the loading of a pellet.

I don't know much about the bore of the CFX's.  Mine has the serial on the barrel, lucky I guess.

What interested me about your post.  The vibration, your comment about shooting 100 rounds was like running a weed eater for on hour.

No matter what the barrel diameter, I can't see it having that effect.  I have not filled my stock or any internal mod.'s.  I could sit and shoot 500 rounds through mine without those effects.

I don't think that vibration is right no matter what barrel you have.

Just my opinion, the powers that be will be able to give you more info.

O.K. fellas give us the low down on the vibration problem.

Thanks,

Perry

well, thanks for responding, you're exactly the kind of person I wanted to hear from. if someone with a bare plain cfx can shoot 500 rounds with no symptoms like mine then there is a problem, hopefully charlie will have good news, it just arrived down there today. I didnt figure it would either, really, but Im grabbing for straws and there's so much bad information on the internet or shadetree answers if ya know what I mean its hard to figure things out. thats why I detest the yellow forum so badly. Thanks
