Generally I consider Big 5 to be a bit overpriced for the trailer-trash atmosphere I feel when inside. However I have found some really good deals there on occassion. Not because I saw it in their weekly ad, but because I blindly stumbled into it while wandering through the store. For example, Big 5's weekly SALE prices on ammo are several dollars higher then WalMarts everyday ammo price. Not that any of us can find ammo anymore these days - but it's a good example of Big 5's pricing. Then, one day, I randomly found a nice pair of Meade binoculars for dirt cheap (clearance). Not a top dollar pair, but a moderately decent and serviceable pair. At a price much cheaper than other stores. They have a few quality items thrown in with the mostly junk brands they carry ... you just have to recognize what you're looking at.
