Looking for opinions on Magnums
« on: April 28, 2009, 10:10:29 AM »
Hi Gang,
I am looking to purchase a magnum powered .22 rifle and am tentatively looking into the 350 Mag and the HW80.  Both guns are available and are comparably priced.  I'm hoping owners of these particular guns will chime in with expereince and recommendations.  I am, of course, open to other brands and would appreciate suggestions.  My only caveats are that I am looking for a break barrel springer and am willing to spend in the $5-600 range (new, CDN money).
Thanks much.

Thomas,
Sounds great, except that I cannot easily import firearms into Canada from your side of the fence, so I'm going to have to buy locally.

Dollar for dollar I'd go with the HW-80, which is virtually identical to the Beeman R1.  It might have a bit less power than the RWS 350 but should have a better trigger and a smoother firing behavior.  On the other hand if you weren't on the other side of the fence I have a nice RWS 350 I'd sell.  Once I outgrew two safes I knew I had a problem.....not enough safe space.  Something will be going.  Another choice and a great one for the money is the  Tech force 89 the Compasseco sells.  You can check it out here:

and read a fairly comprehensive review here:

I have a rws 350 magnum .22 cal w/a hawke 3-9x40 a/o scope and I LOVE IT ! I've had about 15 airguns in the past few years because i thought 380 bucks was too much to spend on an airgun BOY WAS I WRONG ! I would have saved a lot of money if i just bought the 350 mag from the start.

rws-54 .22~ 20fpe- tuned
r-1 double gold .22~ 18fpe -tuned
rx-2 .22~ 20 fpe- factory
u.k. webley tomahawk .177~ power-tuned 18fpe
theoben eliminater .22 - on the way via joe/cuz~ 28fpe.- factory

i like magnum guns and love shooting all of these.  i really don't have a favorite.  each one has its special duty whether its tree-rat, possum, coon, muskrat, beaver, or fowl.   i enjoy plinking with all.  i know this isn't much help but i love all my shooters.  i would consider the rws-54 as it is also a GREAT field target gun.  if you like shooting one holed paper, the rws-54 will do the job.  i don't have my converter so CDN, i don't know.  the rx-2 is more expensive.  the least expensive is the tomahawk but they aren't made in england anymore and i don't recommend a turkish one.  soooooooooo...what's left?....the r-1 (hw-80).  great gun and has plenty of power.  i've taken possum, coon, and muskrat with mine.
