OK Folks... I've ruled out the RM600...
« on: January 20, 2007, 10:45:29 AM »
...so NOW I'm looking at either a refurb RWS48 ($226) or a IZH MP513 ($150), in .22 cal.

Whatcha think? The RWS is at the very tippy-top of my price range, but I could swing the refurb...

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder. And I had a B22, which it even heavier than the '48, and probably uglier to boot.

Hey, Vince, I've heard some good things about that 513, and I really like my little 61.  It's on my list of guns to get, not sure where, but certainly in the top 5.  Later.

Vince,

I am not familiar with the IZH but the Airgun Warehouse has the IZH MP513 for $129.99 - see: http://www.airgunwarehouseinc.com/eaaizspairrf.html   What caliber are you interested in?  Have you considered buying a used RWS 94 - (an excellent gun IMHO)?  I have one and it is one of my favorites.  It is a clone of the famous FWB 124 and mine is extremely accurate for a high velocity gun. It clocks an honest 934 f/s (avg) with 7.9 grain CPLs. Check it out.  Almost everyone I have heard of really likes this gun and it is apparently one of the few guns that actually shoots close to the advertised velocity.  I paid 158 bucks for it new, so a used one should be reasonable.  They were also made in .22 but are pretty hard to find. I have seen them advertised used from time to time.  I would like to have one in .22 myself, but if I get caught bringing another gun home anytime soon, I will be in BIG trouble with " She Who Must Be Obeyed".  "Getting caught" - that is the operative expression.  Fortunately, I have enough guns already that she can't tell when a new one shows up - LOL (as long as she doesn't see the big brown truck arrive I am safe).

Regarding buying a refurb. from RWS, I would make sure that you could get a full refund if you were not satisfied with the gun they send you.  Other than that, I personally would not be afraid to buy one based on the experience of a few folks that I personally know who have had guns repaired by them.  Of course, as you know, your mileage may vary.

BTW, for what it's worth, I think you made the right decision on the RM600, mainly because of aftermarket service.

Good luck finding that new gun - always exciting isn't it?

Cheers,

Jim D'

My guess is that if you called UmarexUSA (the RWS Repair Center in the US) located in Ft. Smith, Arkansas they could provide a list.  I personally have not talked with them but some say that a fellow named GENE is the guy to talk to.  Their phone number is (479)-646-4210   Their website is:   http://www.umarexusa.com/  but I saw no mention of refurbs.  You might find a good deal on a used gun at  http://www.network54.com/Forum/79574/

Cheers,
