« on: April 30, 2009, 09:42:30 AM »
My beeman rs2, the cheap dual barrel springer model. It will not cock. like the catch that holds the spring cocked isnt working. is this something i can fix myself or should i send it to someone, or just trash the cheap rifle? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You may already know this...but just in case....That rifle needs an extra pull at the end of the cockstroke in order for it to catch properly. This happened to me also until I figured out that I was missing that last pull at the end, then everything was ok.

Is the gun brand new?  Have you been able to cock it at all? These guns requre at little extra force at the end of the cocking stroke. This will get easier with use. Don't trash it. I will take it if you don't wan't to mess with it. I own two of them and they are powerful accurate shooters. Does your model have an adjustable trigger. If it is the model 1073 you have a good gun there. I have seen several of these returned to Wal Mart for this reason. It just needs a little extra pull to get it to latch. I cocked one in front of a guy who claimed it was defective. He tried after me and couldn't do it. I showed him again that there was nothing wrong by cocking it again. PM me if you want

Thanks guys, i will give it a try. I shot the gun for about 500 shots before it crapped on me. i will try ther extra mile at the end. It just doesnt seem to catch like it used to. I dont know. This is one of three springers i own. Seemed pretty cool at first then just crapped the bed on me.

Regarding your problem with your RS-2. I have to agree with the other replies that it is just the nature of this air rifle.  I own one that I only use the with 22. barrel .  It  has that last push catch also. If you really want to rid yourself of your rifle please send it my way.  This is my first post as a new member and want to say hello to one and all.  I hope this reply is being done correctly.

I had one of those, it was junk out of the box.  I took it apart and de-burred and did a lube tune to it, it was 99% better.  I later put six of JM's old school buttons on the top rear of the piston, the surface that sees the most force against the action when the gun is cocked, this smoothed the cocking and dramatically improved the latching effort.

That gun now belongs to my brother, it is nearly as accurate as my MM-B26 and it is much more powerful.  I really think it is as accurate as the B26, but is a little more difficult to shoot.

If you have the adjustable trigger, that is the stuff.  I took my trigger apart and polished the mating surfaces too, I'm not sure what else you could want from a trigger, that thing is great.

One other thing to look for, the trigger assembly kind of "floats" on the pins in the action, it can be slightly cocked or off center contributing to your issue.
