PCP choice

Hello, I am new to the forum, directed this way by Charlie Da Tuna (thanks Bob).  I currently own a Renington Summit, which I purchased this past summer without doing much research.  I have enjoyed shooing it, but it just is not accurate enough and does not have enough range.  I primarily shred paper, but also like to hunt with it.  I have received recommendations on some different springers which can be tuned, but after doing a lot of surfing am wondering if I would enjoy a PCP more.  I like the idea of the condor shooting a .177 at 1400 fps and would think that turning it down I could do a lot of plinking on one tank of air. (By the way I already own a scuba tank and have access to a compressor.)  I have also read that the logun s-16 is very quiet, which may be a plus due to neighbors very close by (1 acre lots in town), but I am in walking distance of 80 acres outside of the city limits on which I can shoot until my shooting finger ceases to function.  I am open to any suggestions anyone might have on another rifle with accuracy up to and beyond 50 yds.  Also it should have enough power to bring down a squirrel in a very tall oak.  My price limit would be that of a Logun s-16.  My benji .22 always and sometimes my Rem. will bounce off a thick squirrel hide.

Other questions:
1. Is there a big difference in sound levels or accuracy between the Logun and the Air Force rifles and accuracy between springers and PCP's?
2. How often will I have to have my scuba tank filled (regular diving size tank)?
3. Is their enough quality and accuracy difference to substantiate the price difference between springers and PCP's?
4. Is CITCO.com a reputable dealer? (I like their packages)
5. ANY other information anyone would like to contribute.

Thanks for any cmments,
John

WOW John..:)

Thats a tall order lol....

Being a springer addict, I do not have all the answers for ya...:) But I do own two fantastic PCP's.. One is an FX Cyclone .22 and a Samatra .22

The FX is extremly accurate. I have only shot paper out to 40 yards with it but it is very quiet on all power settings. It has a rotary clip that holds 8 pellets. Also has a biathalon cocking lever which lets you keep your eye in the scope while cocking and shooting another round off..:) It fills to 2900 PSI.  When shooting targets, I generally us the low setting. 750 fps. I get about 4 or 5 clips through it before pumping it back up. Yes I use a pump..:) At this point the psi left in the FX is around 1600 psi. It takes about 40 to 50 pumps to bring it to full again. By the way the FX develops up to 30fpe with the right pellets. Check out Straightshooter for data.

The Samatra is an Elephant gun.... lol One of the most powerful PCP's made in a .22. It shoots 31 gr pellets to boot and develops over 65 fpe. It is a bear to pump up. Ususally takes about 80 pumps or more to fill from 2200 psi. The gun holds 3200 psi. It is not as accurate as the FX but I am sure it would take down a possum at under 40 yards on full power. It has a 6 shot rotary clip and usually gets about 32 pellets before a refill.

Hope some of the other guys chime in on your thread here. If you want to know more about springer, I do know more about them than PCP's...:) I shoot my springers allot more than my PCP's. More of a challenge shooting the Springers..:) You can almost be bind like me and still hit a bullseye with most PCP's... hehe

Good Look John and welcome aboard..

Thanks Gene.

It is really hard to decide which way to go with so many choices.

I have a Airforce Condor and I absolutely LOVE it!  The accuracy is incredible!  I can get 1 hole groups from 35 yards using a bipod, and get dime size groups from 50 yards.  Power is excellent.  It will shoot through a 2x10 board, which my .22 long rifle doesn't always go through.  It is a joy for me to shoot, and I am sure that you will love it if you get one.  I pump mine up, and although it isn't easy, it is not that hard either.  The accuracy of the condor is much better than most springers out there, although some of the $400 and up springers might be as accurate.  Hope this helps some.

What caliber and barrel do you have?  How loud is it?

I have the .22 caliber condor.  It is not as loud as I thought it would be.  A .22 long rifle is much louder than the condor is on the highest power.  The only time the condor becomes loud is when you break the sound barrier, which is not the best idea.  Not only will you lead the barrel, the bullet will  become less accurate (I can still hit a bird from 50 yards when shooting  a 21 gr. Kodiak at 1150 fps).  I usually hunt with the powerwheel set to 7 or 8 when using Kodiaks and 9 or 10 when using the Eun Jins.  From 80 yards, it will shred a unopened coke can. You can also get .25 cal. kits, .308 cal. kits, and even 9mm conversion kits if you want to hunt larger game (.308 conversion has around 200 ft. lbs.) The power, versatility, and accuracy make this the best bang for the buck IMO.
