Destroyer's Vs. WadCutters
« on: May 03, 2009, 05:25:41 AM »
Maybe this belongs over in the Pellet reviews section, but it doesn't look like anyones
been there lately.

Picked up a can of Destroyers & I'm wondering -- are these supposed to have better
range than wadcutters?

I can't imagine from an aerodynamics point of view theres really much different between
the shapes of the two.

-Tony

I'm just chock full of questions, aren't I?
Thanks for everyones help, I've been learning alot.

Albeit I have no experience with the Destroyers- most wadcutters are GREAT from 10 to 15 yards for ripping squirrels out the trees.  To my observation the Destroyers will have the same effect at those distances but the further you get out you'll start getting fliers.  Domes seem to handle distance travel better than wadcutters do.  I've tried zeroing wadcutters at 30 to 40 yards and up against domes there is no contest.  It really depends on what application they're being used in.

I have heard however that upon impact the Destroyers mushroom out much better than standard wadcutters and that penetration is much better than most wadcutters.  I have been fully converted to Predator Polymag's where hunting is concerned.  They're all about superior penetration and just about double in size on impact.

Make your choice based upon whatever application they're being used for.  At closer range I'd use the Destroyers before reaching for the wadcutters.

Just my two cents.

Get yourself some Predators is you like that hollowpoint design.  Plus they are much more accurate.  Search on the Yellow forum.  Much discussion about Destroyers vs Predators about a week ago.  Yes, they are much more expensive but, like good hunting ammo, they are worth it.  Plus they help support their small inventor who lives in Colorado.

My vote's also for the Predator if it turns out your rifle likes them.  They certainly do a number on tree rats, turkeys (ooops, honest, I thought it was a crow!) rear view mirrors...Nope, that was Jeff, etc.  lol

Remember though, POI on the target will most certainly be different then that of the pellet you normally use for day-to-day shooting.  After your rifle is seasoned and targeted with whichever pellet you choose, just shoot some Predators and see where they hit...adjust from there, but keep track of how many clicks for elevation and windage you change.  Revert back to your previous settings once you finish with the Predators....

The Destroyers are a good hunting pellet and I've had great success with them, dropped nutters 25yrds out and always have a tin on hand. The Predators are second to none as far as I'm concerned for putting a hurting on critters and are accurate. I personally use the Predators in all cals for larger game like G-Hogs, Country Rat's, Bandit's etc.. Use a Predator to go after a Predator so to speak hehehe. Nutters, bird's and small ground critter's get one of my other brand and types of hunting pellets like Destroyers, CHP's, Rocket's, Pro Mags, Tomahawks and Hunter's. Ed

Gotta give the nod to the predators as well.... they are just awesome...

As for the destroyers,,,, I have a couple of tins on the shelf and they shoot well in a couple of my guns.  I've only used them on birds and such but they seem to work well if your gun likes em.

LIke Ed said though,,,, for bigger n tougher game go with the predators.... you'll never be sorry..

BTW..... if you are looking for a pellet to really put a hurting on a truck door rear view mirror look no further than .22 cal CPH's.... take my word for it,,,, they will get the job done in fine style ...    :)

By the looks of what I've been reading it appears I need to pick-up a tin of the Destroyers myself.  I'm always down for pellets that rip and grab on their way in!

The destroyers shoot real well for us, Matt.  Matter of fact, most of our shooting is done with CPHP's and the detroyers shoot same POA/POI as the CPHP's.  They seem to work well in my Diana and my kids' Gamos...haven't tried em in the Ruger yet.

The destroyers are great for anything with feathers at medium to short range.  I've used them with great success on grackles out of my shadow 1k.  Accuracy seems to be the same as wadcutters but the impact is distinct and very lethal.  Don't get me wrong predators are incredible but they can be a bit pricey to use on small creatures and for practice.  You will not go wrong with the destroyers for regular backyard pests and barn rats.
