QB-78 Tube Cap
« on: May 03, 2009, 05:54:43 PM »
Hello everyone my name is John and I am new to Forums and a slow typer so I will try to make the best of this. Last week I got two QB-78 Deluxe air rifles. One in .177 and the other 22. My question is in the 22 version the part that pierces the air cylinder is about 1/2 inch longer than the one that is in the .177. I unscrewed them from the cap and set them side by side to be sure. What does this mean are the valves different sizes? I looked up replacement caps and saw only one size available. Did I get some kind of oddball? :o

I checked mine and they look nominally the same.  If yours works then I wouldn't worry too much about the Chinese QC...

YOu can check with Archers Airguns, but he posted awhile back that there had been some changes made to the newest rifles imported....the slightly longer gas cap isn't an accident, sooner or later they'll all have them.

qb tube caps and a question for Robert
We have two qbs and they have the same Tube caps, but they are both .22

Hey Robert, I sent you an email this morning with a question I was having about bulk-filling my qb.

this is from Archer's stie...shows the new tube caps.  Which means that there are going to be headaches for parts supply as now there are two caps, so you're going to have to keep track of which one your rifle takes.

Now looking at it, the new cap is a more intelligent design...keeping that o-ring clean and lubed in the original wasn't easy, but with the new design it should be simple.

Slide checks

Did get around to asnwering...worked a bit late today.

I gave up on slide checks, they just didn't work for me and leaked. But other people here seem to be happy with them, so I'll ask for some help from the general population of happy slide-check users:

Ever have a problem with the slide check blowing the o-ring, and if so, how did you cure it?

Thanks for the reply I went to the Archer link and that is exactly what I have the 22 cap the o-riing shows and the 177 cap it doesn't. I am not overly concerned but was just wondering were the difference in space is made up.

I'm glad that the blog post on the new QB78 tube cap was useful.

Currently we're receiving product from the factory with both the old and new tube caps - sometimes even in the same case of guns! But obviously the factory is changing to the longer tube cap - and longer main tube that goes with it - and in time all QB78 family guns will have it.

The Archer Airguns blog is still new, but I intend to post useful information such as this in future. New posts are on an approximately weekly basis.
