Just a new user saying hello!
« on: January 22, 2007, 09:49:09 AM »
Hello fellow air-gunners. Just saying hello and I really love this site. I am a 46 yo from upstate NY who is hooked on target shooting. That is when I get the chance. I have a Crosman 760 pumpmaster I bought 13 years ago and still chase away squirrels with it. About 2 years ago I bought a Gamo Shadow 1000, then added the scope/lite/laser to it. Simply AWESOME and sooooo much fun. On a good day I can shoot dime size "shoot and see" targets at 70 ft. using a pillow rest from a chair. But I am not here to brag. Some days I shoot like MR. MAGOO! Anyway, I have already learned so much since joining this site. I thank you all for the great stories and info you share. I hope that I will be able to share some info from my experiances as well.
I just ordered a Gamo CFX from pyramidAir. As my luck would have, it is back-odered but they say the new shipments of the CFX's will be in on JAN 24th. I CANT wait. I am also looking at the Leapers 8-32x56 non-illuminated mildot scope. If anyone has any info on this scope I would greatly appreciate any feed back on it.
Sorry if this is long winded. Just really wanted to introduce myself and say hello.
Great shooting to all.

Greg

Hey Thanx Ed. GTA is great. I saw that dartboard in your garage pic. I destroyed mine with air darts with the old 760 Crosman. I guess you are more "sane" than me. I will try to work on that. Thanks again.  Just having alot of fun.

Welcome to the forum nyairman! :)

You know it's funny......I started out the same way, shooting my crosman 760 and decided to get a Shadow 1000 about 3 years ago.  My next rifle was the CFX and had to wait because no one had them since they were so new.  I guess my point is that you are well on your way to this "airgun addiction" that we all have.  If you think you are going to be able to stop purchasing air guns after buying the CFX, you're probably wrong.  3 years ago, all I wanted was a more powerful gun (.177 cal. Gamo Shadow 1000) because the old 760 just wasn't doing it for me anymore.....then I wanted a .177 cal fixed barrel rifle (CFX)......then I wanted a .22 cal pump (Benji)....then I wanted a .22 cal breakbarrel (Shadow Supreme).......the list goes on........!
It sneaks up on you and before you know it...WHAM....too late, you're hooked.  Glad to see ya joining our ranks, and again, welcome to the forum (and the addiction) :D

Howdy, Greg, and welcome to our little nut house!  I skipped a couple of steps in the addictions process, I started with a CFX a little over 6 months ago.  Since then, I've added a Diana 350 Magnum .22, an IZH 61, and a Crosman 1377.  The CFX has just recently been converted to a gas ram, so I'm still playing with that.  Good shooting with that Shadow.  I don't own one (YET!), but my boss does, and I've used it a lot.  Totally changed my mind about fixed vs. break barrel in the accuracy department.  I'd really like to do a gas ram conversion on a Shadow, just to see if there's an appreciable diffefence in the two.

Regarding that Leapers 8-32x56, I'm pretty sure it would be too long for the CFX.  Don't know if your'e familiar with the rotary loading breech, but it's can be a real PITA to load if there's a scope hanging over the port.  By the time you factor in eye relief, around 15 inches is about all the scope length you're going to be able to use.  So far, in big glass, I've had a Leapers 3-12x44 full size and a Simmons 44 Mag 6.5-20x44 on my CFX.  Both worked fine, but just barely.  If you have long arms and want to increase the LOP, you could add a spacer in front of the recoil pad.  I did that to mine and it worked out well, although it isn't on there now.  In the process of doing other stuff, I took it off and just never got around to replacing it.  Anyway, speaking of long winded :-), hope this helps, and look forward to seeing more from you.  You've found the best little air gun forum on the web to hang out in, so kick your shoes off, put your feet up, and relax!

Dave

Thanks for the scope info Dave. I think I'll look into another scope. My CFX is still on back-order :0
Can't wait. This is a great site. Awesome info here. I think I'll buy some "animal crackers" while I wait for my new gun!
