My new Disco shoots like ?/:;_*#
« on: May 07, 2009, 05:19:46 AM »
I just got a new custom Disco last week and it won't group. Better yet one time it will hit the paper then it won't for several shots. I talking a 12x12 target. Checked the crown its  fine it was recut and polished. What else should I look at? I've got just over 400 invested in her and I'm at my whits end. I've got her set to around 875fps w/ 14.5 gn superdomes.  I had a muzzle break on her and took it off and ordered a different one. I love the way the gun feels but I'm really beginning to hate pcp's. I can't ever get one to shoot worth a sh*t. I guess I'm a springer guy.

I don't know what you mean by custom . But did you clean the barrel real good ? Have you chronied it yet to make sure the fps is consistent ? And what fill rate are you starting with ? Also have you tried different pellets ? They are good rifle and it would help if you stated what has been done to it as well .Marvin

By "new custom disco"  do you mean a "prepped" one from a dealer or an actual ticked out one from a private person???  In either event I'd check back with whoever you bought it from, perhaps they can assist you.

Did you chrony it ???  Is it shooting consistent FPS ??

Have you tried moving the barrel band.  I've read sometimes it helps.

Have you cleaned the barrel ??  Maybe it just need a real good cleaning  ????

Stock screws tight ???

And lets not forget...... perhaps the rifle is fine and it's really the scope that's your problem.   I'd slap another scope on it if you have one and see what happens.

I'm just throwing things out there for consideration......

Hope you find the problem....

What I mean by custom is its not in a stock it has pistol grip instead. Yes she was chronied and she's sitting around 875 +/- 15 fps. Tried several different pellets and a shotgun with a cylinder choke tube shoots better at 25 yards. Jeff I will try the scope thing this weekend and yes the gun came from a builder not a private owner. I moved the barrel bands no difference. I'm tempted to remove the upper pull the barrel and check to see if it bent. The barrel was cleaned and shot in after recrownig it so that's good. I've changed fill pressures twice same results each time. Builder is on vaca for 2 weeks. So I'm on my own till Mid May.

It was not uncommon for stock discos to experience accuracy problems, but nothing like what you're describing, and most of the accuracy problems they did experience were "workable".

I'm bettin my money it's the scope.....

Let us know how you make out....

Your scope is not holding zero.

Try shooting with just your eyeballs
without any optic help and see if it groups better.

Its not that it won't hold zero I can't get it to zero. I shoot it in one spot and it may shoot that spot twice but the its all over the place. Even as bad as missing a 12" target completly. I'll try eyeballing it tonight see if I get the same results.

When my shots are all over the place, I blame the following in order:

1. Pellets
2. Scope
3. The weather
4. My neighbor's dog
5. Drank too much (or not enough)
6.
7.
8.
9.
10. My airgun

Well maybe I think I got it. I removed the scope shot it with no scope or sights and it went where I pointed it. Remounted the scope filled her back up and used the pellets the gun was shot it with and she seems to be holding her now. I'll try it again more this weekend see what happens then on to the tree rat reduction program lol. I'll update you more as I go.

What scope are you using? What height mounts? Is it a "stock" disco stock or a custom one? Is your barrel band moved forward?

Tasco Varminter 2.5-10x42 mil-dot w/ target turrets. Medium leapers mounts. Nothing stock about this gun except the barrel and the airtube. The gun has 2 barrel bands one up front and one mid-way. I think she back on track I'm just waiting for some  crosman pellets in the brown box to show up and I'll try her some more. I have a TKO break coming as well.

Jason, do you have cheek weld issues with this stock? I've never handled a 2250, but the butt stock looks angled down. Also I've seen many pictures of the cheek rest padded up on that stock. Just something to think about. Also the front barrel band might affect accuracy as well.

I really like the way the gun feels with this setup. One thing I need to change is put a piece of rubber on the end of the butt. The plastic is a little slick and sometimes doesn't feel secure. Chris yes it is angled down and I have a plan to rectifiy that if I can ever get by the hardwood store locally. The front barrel band is a must when shooting with a mod on these guns. I'm hoping to have more info up on Suday if time allows. I need to finish the fore arm and start on the cheek rest. I'll keep you guys up to date.
