What sort of velocities are you getting from your Gamo?
« on: May 08, 2009, 02:59:37 PM »
I have a newish Hunter Elite, stock excepting the GRT trigger, with about 1000 rounds through it.  I was at my parent's farm last month, and spent some time with a chronograph and five different types of pellets, weighing 7.9 grams to 8.2 (Gamo, Crossman, and RWS).  The low velocity was 861fps and the high was 887fps.  RWS Meisterkugeln's @8.2 grams are the gun's favourite, and shoot consistently at around 870 fps.  I intend to have this gun tuned, because the twang is utterly ridiculous compared to my 48, and methinks there is real shooting potential there once it is settled down.
So, what sort of velocities are you getting from your Gamo?

I don't have a chronograph but when I had it tuned Bob sent initial test data stating that it was averaging about 960 fps with 8.3 gr RWS Superdomes. I expect that has picked up a little now that the barrel is seasoned.

I just got back my whisper from being turbo tune. Bob gave me a report, before tune the average was 895, I think don't have the report in front of me, after the tune it was 952.

My .177 S1K shoots CPL's at 855 fps and JSB Exacts 8.44 at 835fps. Never checked it with Predators, but it knocks everything dead, so I guess it does OK with them. I've found mine to be the most accurate at this velocity as the barrel is a little loose, but it can shoot 3/8" groups at 30 yards in the right hands.Higher velocity ( over 900 fps with a stronger spring) and the groups open up to around 1_1-1/4" at 30 yards using the same pellets. Using lighter pellets to get the velocity up is even worse. Got a Grackle with a head shot at 65 yards last winter; Predator darn near decapitated it.
