Dave & Bullseye,

I’ve got to somehow agree with Bullseye, saying it’s a sales gimmick, as we would probably not have tried these pellets if it wasn’t for the absolute wrongly quoted head sizes. The fact that they shoot well with most air rifles is  another known fact that different air rifles like different pellets, being it size or weight and here we have one manufacturer that gives us all.

It’s also a known fact that the coming of the oversize AA’s some time ago, proved to be beneficiary to a lot of air rifles at that time. The AA’s also comes from the JSB stable.

I just hate it when I’m being lied to as a sales gimmick, it is like they know how stupid I am and would exploit it to their advantage.

The fact that they wouldn’t even bother to answer my question proves to me, there must be something wrong with their quoted figures.

Bullseye,

It's nice to find another brother in crime.

The background to my "last question" is that I a retrenched analytical chemist with no future in getting a job in this beloved country of mine. That’s why fool around with air rifles all the time.

Had to put the testing on hold until I can afford a scale, Mike.  Will probably be a couple of weeks until I can recover from the holiday income sag.  I work construction in a place where that tends to be VERY seasonal, and the income's been a little spotty the last few weeks.  But I will get back to it, and post the results.  Later.

.

I just got some Daystste [jsb's] that were labeled "4.53"

I got 4.51 and 4.52 the last time..

Now I'm ordering 4.52 JSB's 5 tins ata a time. It's amazing how fast they go away.

I've tried the JSB heavies, [10.3?] and they work great out to about 30 yards, where they start dropping a bit more than the 8.4's

Both of them slip into the breach smoothly, unlike others.

IMHO, FWIW, TMMV, YCMNR :) :) :) :)

I know the first two, but what's TMMV & YCMNR?  I have Exacts in 4.50, .51, .52, and .53.  The only place I know for sure that stocks all 4 is Airguns Only, aka Illingswort Imports, in Canada.  As I recall, a sleeve of 10 was about $69, shipping was another $18.  Good guy, if you want different sizes for testing, he'll happily set up a mixed sleeve for you, same price.  Later.

Still no scale...

But I had the Chrony set up anyway, so figure I'd go ahead and run this series.  I've been planning on doing it anyway, and it will make a nice control when I do finally get a scale.  No, these aren't the pellets I sorted for size, these are as they came from the tins.

I used Superdomes as a control, and bracketed the Exacts, as a double check on the rifle.  Wouldn't want a breech seal blowing out in the middle of the test skewing the results.  I'd say the difference in the two strings is small enough to be statistically insignificant.  And that makes me pretty confident in the rest of the results.

I still don't understand these results.  The Superdomes and the Exacts weigh the same, if anything, the Domes tend to be heavier, I think.  The Exacts have a better BC, and yet I alway get more velocity from the Superdomes, which means more power.  I think I need to shoot them both over the Chrony at 30 yards.  Maybe the better BC of the Exacts will show up in more retained velocity/energy.  But that's a test that will definitely have to wait for better weather!  One thing's for sure, whether you beleive JSB's different head sizes or not, there's something going on here.  But that's enough editorializing by me, I'll let the results do the rest of the talking.  Enjoy!
