whisper help - pin loose
« on: May 09, 2009, 06:59:28 AM »
Hey guys, I'm new to airguns and this forum, but am now hooked. I have a Drozd MP661k and a Gamo Whisper. Just got the Whisper a couple months ago and as my
son was cocking it this pin came loose and gouged the stock.

Does any one know the name or part number and if i can get Gamo to send me the part instead of having to send the gun to them? Is it easy to just put a new on in?
Thanks for any help and all the good info here....now I'm going to have to get one of those Marauders....SWEET!

Matthew

Mat,
That's a tube rivet that probably wasn't in far enough when it was flaired.

If it still has enough length to be re-tightened ......

With the lever suported over a gap slightly wider than the rivet try taping the rivet head back into the lever joint until the head is flush with the lever.

Then put the head and lever flat on a steel surface like the top of a vice.

Use a large center punch,.... or the ball end of a small jewler's ball pean hammer (only hit it with a soft faced mallet- never with another steel hammer), or some kind of 45 degree tapered end pin that is the same or slightly larger diameter as the rivet. While the head/lever side is well suported on steel, drive the punch into the open end of the rivet to re-flair the end of the rivet tight in the lever (The one on my whisper is flaired  tight enough that the rivet  doesn't turn when I flex the lever joint).

Thanks Paul,
Yea that tube rivet does not look like it is flared at all on the opposite side and it just slides in and out of the hole.
I will have to find some thing to flair it. I am not as handy with the tools as most of you guys and don't have any of the ones you mentioned, but will try to get one of them. Pretty easy fix with the correct flaring tool. Cool I really did not want to send it in to Gamo.

Mat,
It would probably be cheaper to buy a large center punch at Sears, or Lowes than what it would cost to ship and insure the gun back to Gamo.

Anything with about a 45 degree  taper,  or ball shaped and the diameter of the rivet or slightly larger will work. Got any loose ball bearings in a junk drawer ???

Got any bud's that are mechanics ? May only cost ya a beer or two. :D

Welcome to the GTA forum and family illwill.  What those guys said about that rivet.  Just pound it a few times to make it flare out......

Btw.....I don't think Gamo send parts to their customers....I have read from a few members here that they have tried....but no dice.  Maybe it's a lawsuit thing with them.....they don't want a customer installing a part and maybe got hurt doing it and come back after them.......

First, illwill, welcome to GTA!!!

I can attest that Gamo will not send parts, even something as simple as a plastic end cap (or a bolt, or a pin, etc.), unless you are an authorized Gamo dealer or a certified gunsmith.

They didn't even bother to  email me back when I emailed them that my brand new Viper was missing two screws (the ones used to clamp the scope onto the mount)....I was hoping they would send me two of them.
