Is it a good idea to wash and lube pellets?
« on: June 23, 2006, 11:03:36 AM »
Crosman Premier Domed pellets are my favorite choice, but I have to say that they are quite dirty. I’m talking about the ones that come in big quantity (1250), in a carton box. So, my question is:
1) is it a good idea to wash them?
2) Does it require relubrication?

I buy the cheap Crosman Premium Grade Wadcutters in 500 pellet plastic packages.  They are filthy.  I dump the whole package in a 16 oz plastic jar with some water and a couple drops of detergent.  I slosh the pellets around a few times then rinse the soap suds off.  After draining the pellets in a collander I dump them out on an old towel on the picnic table out in the hot sun.  After a couple hours in the sun, I spray the pellets with Slick 50, roll them a round a little, then hit them with another shot of Slick 50.  After letting them set for another hour or two I put them in an empty tin, and they are ready to go.  Seems like a lot of trouble, but if you do a 1000 or more at one time it doesn't seem too bad.  I don't know if the wash and lube are absolutely neccessary but barrels stay cleaner longer and your finger tips don't turn dark grey from handling pellets.

I haven't tried it.  It took me a while just to find the Slick 50.  I got it at NAPA Auto Supply in a spray can.  I also have some bike lube called Krytech, but since it wasn't in a spray bottle I just used the Slick 50.  Perhaps some of these other guys have tried it or something else and will let us know about it.

Did someone say Krytech?

Hey fellas.

I use the paint thinner washing, paper towel drying and Krytech approach on my Crosman pellets.  So far it works fine and I haven't seen any ill effects at all.

I use an empty 500 rd tin (Crosman cause it has the padding pads) when I apply the Krytech.  A few drops goes a long way in lubing/protecting from oxidization.

I alway wash and lube pellets, you won't belive the junk left in the baggy when your done cleaning them.

The way I do it is a zip lock baggy and mineral spirits, dump the pellets in the baggy and a little mineral spirits and slosh them around awhile, take them out and place them on paper towels and dry.
Take another baggy and put 6 or 7 drops of napier pellet lube and shake them up for a minute or two and you have nice clean and lubed pellets. I use the lube baggy over and over, the Napier I get from Gander Mountian, they stock it, at least they do here anyway.
