Tools/checklist for a rebuild

Pretty much what will all be needed is what im looking for. Obvesly tools to remove the stock and whatnot but what kind of specialty tools will I need and where to buy them. My mainspring broke so figured why not try fixing it myself. Any extra parts to get besides a spring and the lubs/tars?

But just wondering what I should have around while doing this...

Hi eithy8fierogt,

First and foremost you are going to need a spring compressor to safely remove and re-install the spring thats the only "real" specialty tool you will need to replace a spring.  A lot of people make them, but peterdragin aka: Rich from Mich. makes a great spring compressor and is very reasonable in price.  I have one and it works great.  I also use a dremel to grind off the sharp spring end edges also, but a file can be used as well.  Polish the spring ends with 240 and 400 grit sandpaper afterward.   I also use an assortment of small files to remove burrs and imprefections in the cocking slot to help smooth out cocking, and other areas of the tube where sharp edges can damage a piston seal when installing it.

I second the need for a spring compressor, gotta keep the spring under control unless you want to lose some teeth!

If you are going to buy a spring compressor then go to the link I provided, thats Rich from Mich. website, he's selling them for $45.00 shipped.  That's less than 1/3 the price of one made by B-square....you can't beat it IMHO.  Dependant upon what spring you are using, will depend on the spring guide.  Rich sells them as well, and if you already have the spring, tell him which one you have and he'll make a guide for it.  If you didn't get a spring yet, he also sells tune kits which include the springs and spring guides and lubes combined.  I use his guides and had no problems whatsoever, though I haven't gotten the one with the new guide material, it's supposed to be better.

Rich sell the complete kit, and includes one of his trigger inserts, as I recall. With the compressor, it makes for a nice one stop shop! One suggestion, if you make your own compressor, make sure you have enough travel do decompress the spring. I made a quickie out a pipe clamp I had on hand and some scrap wood. Worked great on my CFX, but the stroke was a little on the short side for my 350. I still worked, but I think I need to consider a plan B :-)! Good luck, and keep us posted. Don't forget pix!

Well Ive for the most part decided to go with Rich's tune/lube kit with a crossman spring. Dose anyone have any pros or cons about this spring at all. And how is the power output compared to the stock gamo spring?

I had done my wife's 890S with a crosman spring.  The spring is similar to the one thats stock in the Gamo, maybe a little tighter fitting on the guide and supposed to be a little more powerful as well.  The biggest advantage to the Crosman spring is that it is readily available from Crosman and is inexpensive, so that you can DIY whenever you need a new spring.  Since you got a kit from Rich, you're good to go.  If you just got the spring, you would've needed a new top hat to replace the stock Gamo tophat.  I wouldn't expect any great differences in the fps dept. but with the new guide kit, the rifle should feel a lot better when shooting and be devoid of most, if not all of that spring "twang".
