anyone know the OD of a S1K or 220 barrel?
« on: January 24, 2007, 05:15:33 PM »
Just curious what the OD of a S1K or 220 barrel is, I have an AR2078 with a muzzle brake on it and I am thinking of putting the peep sights back on....which will leave me with an extra 15mm muzzle brake.  Might fit on the S1K or the 220 I have scoped, would rather not auger it out in case I ever want to put it back on the 2078.  I have calipers at work, but bringing my gun parts into work is kinda not good...don't really need them at home for my wood work:)

TIA,

Sweeeeet, thanx!!!

Didn't want to take the muzzle brake off the AR if it wouldn't fit, it was a bit on the tight side going on.

Now how do I get that hooded front sight off the Shadow?

Maybe I lucked out and they installed mine with super glue, hehe, doesn't want to budge.  Guess I'll keep pounding for a little while longer, or get a bigger hammer.  I did manage to knock the sight hood off it though, probably snap right back on:)

Hehe, 3-4 "taps" eh......maybe mine was the "30-40 wallops with a 28oz framing hammer" model.  It came off finally, no harm done to any of the parties involved, except the sight itself:)  Gonna try that muzzle brake here in a bit, then I'll know if I just wasted a perfectly good fiber optic sight for nothing or not.

No big deal I have a box full of them if you need one.

The barrel measures .584 just under 15mm.

The muzzle brake from my AR2078 fits on my Hunter 220, actually fits just a smidgeon easier, which is good because putting it on the AR was a pain...literally(I got my finger caught between the brake and those nifty little cutouts in the AR2078 barrel, kinda pinched off a huge chunk of skin and wouldn't let go till my wife knocked me loose with a hammer and a drift punch.  Funny watching a grown man attached to an airgun with blood all over the place dancing around asking his wife to knock him loose with a hammer....unless of course you're that grown man, then it's not funny at all).  Longer story shortenned I had to pound it on the barrel, then pound it off my hand, then pound it back on all covered in blood in a cold sweat:)  This particular muzzle brake is quite long and gives me an extra 2-3 inches of cocking arm, which is what I want to help with shoulder fatigue.  Plus I miss my peep sights and the scope never did work out right on the 2078.

Will post pics once the whole gun is done, think I may refinish the 220 stock too, needs some "grippage".

Hehe, the thing was initially so tight going on the barrel that I was hammering it on, while holding the barrel with my other hand, right where those grooves are cut into the barrel.  It would have hurt if I had done it fast, but I did it then sat in the garage, in pain, for about 5 good minutes trying to figure out what I could do to get this barrel off my hand that was attached by...my pinched finger!!!  It was pretty nice, it actually bled quite a bit...I just sat there minute by minute kinda pacing around the garage, holding the barrel, thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking, then openned the door and called for my wife to come out...the first thing she says,"What, did ya shoot yourself?".  We had to invert my hand to pound the brake off the barrel, and as soon as it let loose it just bled real good and I sorta slumped on the floor about to pass out.  My wife actually thought it was pretty funny once she figured out that I wasn't going to die, thanx Honey!  Looking back now it was pretty funny, I sure coulda won a Darwin Award for that one,
