scope mount question
« on: January 25, 2007, 09:49:53 AM »
I been trying to figure this out. MY b26 will not work properly with a one piece mount. The 2 piece mount works fine.

With the one piece I run out of windage, 2 piece I am normally 1 revolution from center of scope.

Why is it ???

I have been trying to figure this out, The dove tales are straight, I laid a straight edge along them and they run true.

try mounting the one piece mount backwards, perhaps the mount is machined incorrectly.  Is the height the same with both the one piece and the two piece mounts?  Alot of odd things can happen, and do happen.  I have a one piece mount here, a BAM mount that I have plans to try with different scopes for the same reason, just run out of elevation.  Turning the mount around may help, or it may not if the mount is indeed twisted, but it might be worth a shot.

You know I though the same thing. The way it is now i am running out of left windage. before i was running out of right windage.  This is the same thing I was running into with my leapers scope unitl I bought 2 piece mounts. Would you think the dove tales are crooked, even tho they look straight.

 i am very confused   :0

Man nothing surprises me anymore.  You have to remember a VERY small difference in angles between the scope rail and the barrel lead to quite a spread at 40 feet or so....is the scope rail on the B26 welded on or cut into the reciever?  I had something, can't remember what gun it was that had been welded a little funky.  But hey, if two piece mounts work, why not use 'em?

Hehe, I'm in the process of putting my peep sights back on my AR2078 because the scope that's on it wont center and elevate right with a handful of shims.  Gonna try that scope and mount on another gun, and then another scope with that mount on another gun to see if I can figure out what piece of the puzzle is goofy.

Speaking of B26's, you get my email today?  Just curious,

Yup, I got it, still no update on price. I think I will e-mail them again, and see about the price sheet.

I found the problem, The dove are cut into the receiver, but off center. I still do know why a 2 piece mount will work and a one piece wont.

Hey Wallis, is this a B26 or B26-2?  If it has open sights and they wont exchange it for you I might be interested.....(gleaming glassy eyes dreaming of owning my own b26:)

NOW are you ready for this.......

I have a one piece that I cut in half( don't ask), It's only 1/8" off center with the adjustment turrets at half way. The only thing this scope is not air gun rated.

It's regular b26 , no sites tho. I have sold them.

Is the two piece acting kinda like a shim or torking the scope to compensate for the funky dovetale.? Ed

far as I can tell it's holding the same line as the one piece. It seems here lately I've been getting the wierd stuff.

hehe, I totally have no idea what is going on there, but it sounds like the one piece mount doesn't work for that one.  I took my HUGE 6x24x50AOE scope off my AR2078 tonight, it is on a BAM one piece mount.  Might try to stick it on my S1K just to see it I have the same problem with it.  I had it on a B30 first and it was miserable.  I shimmed, shimmed, shimmed, and it finally sighted in a little bit...never correctly imho though.  So I put it on my 2078 which is very accurate with the peep sights, and it never sighted in right....maybe I should toss it:)  I'll try the Shadow, then swap scopes, and try just the one piece mount on a different known good scope.  For some odd reason I think the mount is to blame too, gut feeling maybe?  Hehe, maybe I should drop it on the bandsaw and cut it in two:)

Hey, Wallis, is it possible the dovetails are cut on a curve, instead of just off center?  That might explain why a 2 pc. works, but not a 1 pc.  The 2 pc. straddles the curve, keeping things more in line.  Sounds crazy, but it would explain the situation.  Have you tried shifting the mount fore and aft on the rifle?  If my crazy idea is right, it should cause the windage to shift.  Keep us posted, this is interesting.

You know every BAM one piece I have used I had to modify it to fit the dove tales. the last 2 I received I had to remove about 1/8 of a inch from the mount to get to sit straight up and down. The mounts out of the box leaned over to the right and made the shots way far right.

The mounts I've been trying to used is the BKL that came with the scope trade I did. The mounts are fine just not working with my gun . The BKL will not fit the dove on my QB 79, the mounts are to wide.

MY luck  :)
