Opinions Wanted!!!
« on: May 13, 2009, 02:03:08 AM »
Here's my problem - I really like shooting air files and would like to continue. But I'm disabled and because of brain damage, I have a lot of anxiety and very low frustration tolerance.  I currently have a RWS 460 and a Hammerli Titan. I've been told by an experienced airgunner that the 460 is a solid shooting gun - short smooth firing cycle and nice trigger BUT very powerful. The Titan definitely needs some work so I am mainly shooting the Diana.  In the hands of a skilled and patient person, the 460 would be a lot of fun to shoot. BUT I am neither skilled nor patient. With my limited budget, I can't afford to put much more money into guns. So this is where I would welcome your opinions. Do I keep the 460 and try to learn to shoot it or do I sell it and buy another gun?  If so which one?  I definitely want it tuned. I do not hunt and target shoot no farther than 50 yards. I have thought about the B26, B40 and the new B25. I have also thought about just getting the Titan tuned but for not much more money I can get a new gun. Whatever would give me the greatest chance at learning to shoot better and therefore enjoy this hobby. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Keep the 460 and get it tuned/de-tuned. Have some one set it for 12-15 ft.lbs and you will enjoy it. Magnum guns take trigger time to master, if you can lower the power it will be much easier to shoot. A simple spring change and you are back to full power if you want.

Thought about detuning the 460 - but it will cost me at least $100. And I doubt that I could even get any of the the cost of the detune back if I were to try to sell it later. To put the original spring back in would cost even more. Nope, if I keep the 460, I'm just going to shoot it as it is. Thanks!

how about CO2..................

with the low recoil and light weight many of them might just be what you are looking for, the Chinese AR2078 and 2078A are accurate and have bigger stocks while the QB-78 is light easy to carry and shoots accutarely.......

Thought about CO2 since I became interested in air guns. But the extra expense is an issue.  I really am interested in one of your guns that you do your magic on - but which one, I don't know.  I have a feeler listed in the classifieds to sell my RWS 460. If I can, then I will be able to buy another gun.  I was really interested in the B40 - but this might be another case of more gun than I need.  I have heard so much about your B26s and I really like the thumbhole stock - but it would have to fixed before I could shoot it.  Then there is the B-25 and again I like the looks of the sniper stock but it looks too vulnerable to breakage.  I could always get a straight stock in either the B 26 or B 25 I guess.  I'm leaning toward the B 25 if it has a decent trigger and would be something I can shoot fairly easily.  What would you suggest? Any other guns that you might recommend?

Hey Terry,

I would highly recommend the B26 in .177!!! Like  dumba$$ I sold mine to Trek. I still have one in .22 but my .177 shot excellent and I think the trigger was a little better. I'm cleaning out whats left in my closet and a B-26 in .177 is going back into my collection but with the new thumbhole stock. Let us know what you decide on.
Jason

Much thanks to everyone who put in your two cents worth.  I have decided to sell my 460 and buy one of Mike's B25 or B26.  Ad right now in the classifieds.

My two cents:

Springers take a lot of time to master.  If you are short on patience, get a pneumatic gun.  I think one of the most accurate, and easy to shoot guns, for the money is this:

It's not a killing machine.  It's a great paper puncher.  Great hobby gun.  Think about it.  You could easily see your 460 and more than cover the cost of this new one.
Slavia CZ 634 .177, Crosman Quest 800 .22, and Baikal IZH 513 .22.

Isn't there some kind of medication that would help with that?

Yea, there are anti-anxiety meds that can help. I'm already on 1 - but with 23 pills of 11 different medications a day, I don't want any more medicine. I just need a easier shooting gun. Thankfully a kind soul named Leftcoast1 has graciously offered to help me with a good shooter. I have also ordered that "Gold" miracle trigger from CDT and that should help. Now, hopefully all I need is practice. Thank you all for your advice.  Terry
