Thanks for the information on the seals.

Seems like a thread on modifying the B3 pops up every month or two.  It never ceases to amaze me the amount of interest this cheap little shooter generates.

Been a spectator for a while on these forums and thought I'd add my 2cents.

Bought a B3-3 from mountain gear along with the cleaning/parts kit and am quite happy with it.  Bought it with the intent of trying out my hand at some of the mods and tunes I have seen here and so I pretty much had the thing apart before I had more than a dozen pellets through it.  The plans for a spring compressor in the library and all the info over at kermit airgun clubs website were really helpful as well.  (they have two great walkthroughs for download http://www.kermitairgunclub.com/projects/ )  

Anyways, I picked up some moly and tar (see All About Lubricants on Kermit website) and went at it with sandpaper and my dremel.

Reassembled my baby and turns out I couldn't shoot her for crap >.<  took me almost a week to develop a hold that she liked (turns out she likes it tight).  Thinking maybe I didn't put enough tar  but anyways I am shooting less than 1" groups at 25 feet now with iron sights (an accomplishment for my first rifle).  Probably gonna tear her down again and try a little more tar when I have some time.  

Am looking at scoping her with a leapers 3-9X32 with the leapers offset single piece scope mount, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with one of these (the mount).  

Once again thanks all for all the info I found on this site and others like it, it has made my entry into air rifles a blast!

Nice to  have you with us on GTA.   Sounds like you did a nice job on that B-3  of yours, congratulations.  

I have 3 of them, all home tuned, and all 3 are fine shooters and have taken their fare share of pests and game as well as more than their share of paper targets and tin cans

The B-3's are really nice shooter after a little TLC,,,, heck, they're not bad straight from the box once you clean all that Chinese mystery oil off them.

If the B3-1 from tools now needs a tune-up and a repair kit, wouldn't it be easier to go with the B3-3 from south summit for $10 more?

I would bet they are the same airguns. My first B3 was slicing the breech seal. I did order a kit.It contains cleaning stuff, a new main spring, and a couple of breech seals. I just today made a new breech seal from some 5/16 fuel line, as suggested by a member of this forum. It seems to be working well too.

Could be true, but personally i think that it`s more pleasant make some mod jobs like put a sintetyc seal, and you have a gun more relyable than others with costs five o ten times more.

The B3-3 I got from south summit was pretty much the B3-1 but the cocking lever is a little longer, it doesnt have a handle on it but it clips onto the muzzle so it kind of looks like a second barrel.  Also internally the spring was the same as the one I got with the QF2 repair kit and the seal was the same synthetic in the QF2 rather than leather.  If you have the know how and facilities to convert a leather seal to a synthetic, I am sure you could do better than the one it comes with, but it is not that bad of a seal as far as I can tell.  Worth the little bit extra, and if I were to do it again I wouldn't have ordered the QF2 kit until something needed replacing.  The piston definitely still needs polishing, as does the trigger and chamber, but you don't have to bother with a retrofit just a little tuning.
