Cabela's Gamo Shadow Silver w/ Red Dot
« on: January 27, 2007, 09:54:57 AM »
Has anybody checked out the Cabela site? They have a Gamo SHADOW Silver 1000 w/ a Red Dot sight for $109.88. Further down the same page they list a Gamo Silver SHADOW 1000 w/ open sights for $184.99. Does anybody know what the difference (other than sighting system) is?
Somebody please talk me out of this thing. I don't need it, but it might be a great deal. The only problem I see with it is that I might find myself livin' in a large appliance box in the back yard.
TIA,
Mike

It's odd, I live about 8 miles from Cabela's here in Fort Worth and the store is maybe a year old, but they never have anything.  I went there a few weeks ago when everyone was getting the 890's for next to nothing to see if I could find one that was left over, and nothing.  My Cabela's usually has a wide assortment of the usual Red Ryders, Daisy 880's, some Benjamins, and a few Crosman 760 airgun fodders...., but nothing except for a returned RWS320 in the Bargain Cave that really caught my eye.  When the store first openned they had RWS48's, RWS54's, R9 Goldfingers, and quite a few other nice animals..., now it's like they gave up.  Maybe it's because I live in Texas and most people just buy powder burners?  Ya know, I don't think I saw even one Gamo while I was in there the last time except for the pistols...and a bunch of those plastic softair gun things...what do they use those for anyways, like paintball?  I think my local Wally World had more air rifles than Cabelas did on this last visit.  Odd........

Yeah well ours never has a dang thing either, and we have the east coast storage/shipping warehouse across the street that looks like a freakin airplane hangar. One of my clients wanted a 44-ish capacity gun safe for several thousand dollars, they didnt have it so he fired up his laptop w/ verizon card and saw he could order and it would be shipped out of the warehouse which is RIGHT BEHIND THE STORE and raised hell till somebody agreed to go over and get one for him, they had to call corporate and get clearance and go through a bunch of crap, he was there five hours waiting for them to bring it over, they're the dumbest store ever, I literally mean the warehouse is right behind the store, across a little two lane street with no yellow lines, not an interstate or toll highway, it fires me up just thinking about it, now Im angry, its just so totally freakin stupid. Anyway the guns I was looking at - RWS 48/52/54 and the R9 GF were all display models, I didnt ask if I could actually buy one. The silver shadow, varmint hunter and shadow 1000 were display models as well all right there on the shelf with the cheapos you mentioned, to see the "shadow silver 1000 w/ red dot" I had to go to the bargain cavewhich is the coolest place in the store next to the fishing section. As for airsoft, yeah like a paintball replacement cuz they dont hurt as much is what I heard some people saying and the guns can be more true to life in appearance and firing behavior, I guess the big problem right now is accuracy. I played paintball once and my team captain gave me a "sniper" rifle and 10 paint grenades.....I dont think airsoft can replace that experience, paint grenades....go buy one, throw it (near) your wife/kids, they ROCK!

To be honest, I really only will go there anymore when I have nothing better to do and my kids want to go look at the fish:)  I can get most of the same stuff (cleaning supplies, pellets, CO2, etc) from my local Wally World or Academy Sports store.  The only thing that Cabelas has that the others don't is a "ok" selection of pellets (which are 2x the price of anywhere else), and the don't stock very many .22 cal pellets which is what I shoot most...so I usually stick to my other two stores.  It is kinda fun on a Saturday when my wife is at work though, I can tell my kids that we're going to the "zoo" and then go walk around Cabela's and look at the taxidermied animals while I wander the shelves of stuff and eat buffalo jerky.

Take care,

Dan

Well, I think I've been saved from this last case of 'chronic, re-occuring airgun dependency'. Unfortunately it's at the expense of my computer, the hard drive is going south. If I'm not heard from for awhile it's because the computer gave it up completely or my wife found out how much it's gonna' cost to fix it.
Wish me luck,
Mike
