mac1 discovery cleaning/care

i got a mac1 discovery and it shoots great and i'd like to keep it that way. so from reading i got the idea that i should not clean the barrel until i get accuracy problems and i pretty much understand how to clean the barrel but my question is on the rest of the gun.
besides the barrel cleaning, what care should i do to keep my disco in great shape? does anything need oils and if so what kind and how much how often? again thanks the the help guys, i like to keep this baby in great condition for as long as i can.

To start leave some air in it even when storing it. Maybe a drop of oil on the bolt periodically. Keep it wipped down with a silicone rag and you should have a long term relationship lol.

please excuse my noob question but what "bolt" are you referring to?

Not a newb question we are all about education here. The bolt or bolt probe the piece that pushes the pellet into the barrel. Just keep a little lube on there to keep away the surface rust. As long as the seals stay good you should have no problems for a very long time. Feel free to ask as many questions as you care someone will come along and answer them. Post some pics and shot targets when you can!!!! HTH

I would use a very small amount of divers silicone on the bolt O ring. Wipe the metal parts with a Beeman or similar cloth.

You may think this sounds crazy, but, if you really like to keep your things nice, try this.  Take a shoe brush, dab on a little black polish and give your barrel and air res a good polish.  This will keep a deep black finish and will add some waterproofing.  The disco barrel and air res are painted black and will scuff mush easier than blued steel.  The black shoe polish works well on scopes also.  This is only for those who take pleasure is keeping their toys looking top notch.

I was a third generation shoe repairman for 20 years and although your idea might work fine for you, I don't like the idea of black polish on my hands.

Don't knock it until you try it.  The disco is painted versus blued.  Oil is necessary for blued to prevent rust, the disco can mar, chip, scratch, etc.  The polish restores the black shine. Don't use your hands; use a brush!

Of course you'd use a brush. I'm talking about handling the gun after you rubbed black polish all over the metal. How do you keep it off your hands?

It doesn't rub off if you buff it to a nice gloss.  After a day in the woods, a ten second brushing makes it look good as new.  My disco came with some rub marks/scratches and this keeps it looking nice.  Try it once and decide if you like it.  This may seem extreme but I'm kind of extreme about all my toys.

That's what I thought too. I'll have a closer look next time I have it  out.

i take it i can get this at pretty much any dive shop? and this is a grease not a oil?

Actually,Tim at MAC 1 has his "secret sauce"....great for lubing bolt,o'ring,etc...I use Remington "REM Oil" for exterior barrel,receiver,etc...

Also,I run dry patches down barrel after 500 shots or so...if you use Crosman pellets,I'd clean barrel more frequently...they lead up barrel more because of some "coating" on their pellets...you can also lube pellets with Krytech very lightly in a tin to help keep barrel cleaner.....(all this info is on MAC 1 site)....
