Why do people pose their guns like this?
« on: May 22, 2009, 08:54:45 AM »
To show or, especially puzzling, for sale?  If I laid my guns down like this, I know for sure they would come up scratched to death:

Not being anal but, man, only one little nudge.......

John, that blue gun is one of the best under-lever spring guns you can get!!!! :) That HW97 is an incredible shooter & that stock is a hit! :)

I agree with your observations 100%.  Guns are not for laying on ground.  If I can't find a place to properly stack a rifle, I keep it in my hands.  You and I must be kinda 'old school' on this subject.  Scratched and with Grit in the action.

I have NO doubt it's a good gun, - but a blue gun just doesn't do anything for me. ;)

As for target shooters and "looker"  :o shooter's you should handle em like a baby. Now as for a hunting shooter's I personally handle them the same way and take care when laying them next to a harvest. I always carry a wipe down cloth with me but I know that hunting shooters will get a scuff or blemish now and then, that's just what happens when your in the sticks. :) It is nice to have the ability to refinish stock's and camo em if the mood hit's me. :) Ed

I am amazed when I see rifles costing well over $500 (not including the glass riding atop them), perched on fence posts, flimsy cardboard boxes, leaning against car doors, all posed over what looks like a veritable bed of spikes.  No such balancing acts  for me.  I'm the guy who puts his Levi's rivet dimples into a previously pristine 54 stock after cocking it once or twice the first time I get my ham fists on it.

And no thread hijacking!  A blue stock on a blued gun ain't so darn awful.  Go to any rimfire forum and check out the spacey 10/22's if you want to see some color combinations.  Yes, there's something for everyone.

I almost bought that blue laminate HW97, I think blue guns are cool!!!  Do have the same gun with a plain wood stock on the way from Brown Santa though:)

Oh yea, on the subject....I've set my guns down on hard surfaces without any problem, but would probably avoid setting them onto pavestone like in your second picture.  When I was younger and still played guitar I wouldn't let anyone wearing a belt hold my guitars because the belt buckles tend to scratch up the backs.  I shudder when I see people lean against nice cars, unless they're wearing bikinis......with no buttons:)

Nude women can lean against my car all day long.  Unless it's a hot one......then they're welcome to come on in and enjoy the A/C.  And I don't care if they scratch my back.  Ooops!  Here comes the old lady.  Just checking the bills online, dear!

Well for about a year after I left the military in 94' I worked part time and played full time.  After a year of that I sobered up and went back to school, got my A&P and have been a mechanic of some sort ever since.  I am infinitly more talented with a wrench than I ever was with a guitar and I've impressed more people by simply saying "it's fixed" than I ever did while screaming into a microphone.  Now in my current position as a prototyping supervisor I get to create new parts/machines from scratch, and that my friend feels just as good as writing a song!  Oh yea, almost forgot, turning a wrench feeds my family too which is something can't say for playing guitar.

Reckon I'm old school. I don't have a weapon without some blemish or sorts. Be it from a blue jeans pocket rivot,  belt buckle,..or stumbling into some old,...or new barbed wire!!! LOL's I use my rifles for sport hunting small game.  Comes with the territory I suppose.  But you know what?!?!,...they're my rifles,.. they fit me,...and as long as I know where they're going to hit and their power range,...they may as well be garbage to someone else. Performance far out-weighs looks when it comes to my shooters. But then again,...if I had a fancy $600 'BB-Gun",...I would be afraid to take it off the rack,.....call me a nervous wreck!!!!! LOL's. I kinda like the blue rifle,...but wonder if they make an Alpine Green and Gold version of it,....for a  South-Paw Shooter?!?!?!?!To fit perhaps,.... my 34 Diana?!?!?!?! Blemishes add character!!!!!
