B26 or b40 which one would you chose?
« on: May 27, 2009, 08:46:27 AM »
I have read some really awsome reviews on both of those rifles I am torn apart.
Which one would you chose for yourself. I know you say just get both of them but funds are limited.
So each of them have their pros and cons but accuracy wise, balance wise, power wise and so on which one is the best?
Also .177 or .22?
Thank you for your input

I have the B26 in .22 and the B40 in .177.  I like them both.  If I could have only one, I would take the B26.  The B40 is more of a bench gun, as it is a real beast to carry around. About 3 pounds heavier than the B26.

The B40 and B26 are also very similar in power at about 15fpe.  The B26 is more ambidextrous (the sporter version, not the B26-2, which ahs the thumb hole.)  The B40s comb is not ambidiextrous.  It can be used by a lefty, but the comb is sharper on the wrong side.  The B40 requires a scope, while the B26 has decent iron sights as well.  I have Leapers 3-9x32AO on both rifles.

Also, the break-barrel B26 is a easier and faster to load.  Some would argue a break-barrel is safer than a sliding breech loader.  I think a B40 is pretty safe compared to a B3 finger eater.

I got my B26 with a full Macari kit and tune.  The B40 was deburred and lubed.  Both from Mike Melick.

Accuracy wise, the B26 can hit do under 1/2" at 20yards with Beeman FTS, its fave pellet.  The B40 is still new so I can't judge yet while she settles.  I'm not sure of her fave pellet yet, but she should shoot better than the B26 from the bench.  Both are better guns than than I am a shot.

My 2 cents, get the B26 in .22 and let the lust build again for the B40.  ;)

I got the B-26-2  in .22. It was a sorely needed break barrel hunting machine, and has turned out to be just that. I already had the TX200 and the HW77 which are both under levers. Although at this point the B-26 won't compete with the TX or the HW, it is doing just fine for what I need it for.

I had a 40 sold it after I found out that the FT club doesn't shoot over the summer too hot. The 40 is a great gun but it is a tad bit on the heavy side at 9 lbs. By the time you scope it if you are not going to sit at a bench and shoot she will become a safe/ closet queen. The B-26 is lite weight around 8 lbs scoped. My 26 came from Mike and he did a wonderful job on her. All you hear is the pellet impact the target. I would say I grab that gun more than any other. What cal???? Depends on what you are doing. I punch paper a little and I have .177's for that. I hunt with a couple of the .177's but my huntin sticks are all .22. I punch paper with them a little to keep familiar with them but that's it. So here's my opinion if going to shoot paper or FT go with the 40 in .177. If you plan a walk about but still mostly punch paper get the 26 in .177 but if you will primarily hunt this gun then I say the 26 in .22. You have a better selection of pellets in .177 and cheaper prices but it will keep unwanted feather and feeder raiders at bay to about 40 yards. Keep asking questions and we will keep answering them. Good luck

I would go with the B26 in .22. I have the B40, B-26 and B26-2 in .22 and a B26 in .177. I do like BAM air guns. All four have been tuned and they all are very nice as shooters but the B26 .22 with a Leapers 3-12X44 AO and JSB pellets is my go to fav. You can come up with the B26 tuned and a scope for about the price of a tuned B40. I think I would also recomend a B26-2 before a B40 as long as it came with the new style stock. My B40 has turned into a bit of a closet queen because of the weight. Good luck with your choice.

Don't own the B40 but both of my B26's, Sporter and -2 are superb shooter's. If you want to punch paper or punch critters the B26's are up to the job. :) Ed

Hi Anatoliy, What you have can be determined as a financial decision to make. The B40 is about twice the pprice of a B26 or B 26-2. Either one with a lube tune by Mike Melick will be a excellent shooter. I owned a B40 in .22cal ,a B26-2 .22cal and a B26 in .177cal. I sold the B40 .22cal ad bought the TX200 MkIII in .22cal, I am in process now in selling the B26-2 in .22cal and I plan to keep the B26 .177cal for now. The B40 no tune out of the box was a accurate shooter ,the shooting cyle is smooth as silk. With a tune, really silky smoooooth. With a scope she weighs in at about 10lbs. Velocity no Chrony when I owned it so my guess would be high 600fps to low 700fps. The B26-2 similar shooting cycle as the B40 but, with a lighter weight. Velocity is tha same also. The last time I chronied the B26-2 it ran low 665fps to 680fps, with a CPHP 14.3gr pellet. Th B26 .177cal came from Mike Melick with one of his lube tunes and is slikyyyy smooooooth. Velocity high 900fps with Gamo Hunters or CPHP.....Bill
