Here is my take on all this!!   I chose the HW30 because its in your price bracket $400 including a good scope.  it is nice weight and size to carry around all day and should be deadly accuate out of the box. You will keep it forever even when you buy and R-9:)  second  choice is definately a "turbo tuned" RWS 34 with a good scope at about $470+/-  all up... I can drive nails with mine you would love it:) third is the R-7 $500+ mark and forth the R-9  double gold more money!!
Personally I would plan on 2 airguns one small and one big  :emoticon: Tony.

Can't go wrong with the R7 or HW50, but if you can find a Slavia 634 somewhere, you would have enough cash left over for one killer scope....

Any R-9 in good to excellent condition is worth min 275. They are excellent right out of the box. Get it save the money and send it off for a tune and then you will really see the quality come out.

so how come pyramyd sells them for $499 new? i think its a lot better to buy used anyways, because you dont have to break in the gun as much. Thanks for the opinion

I got a new R9 .22 from my uncle as a present (ya, he's awesome).  Like most new Weihrachs, it was way over-lubed at the factory.  It deiseled with cracking sounds for the first 25 shots or so.  Now, there's no more visible smoke, but even after about 400 rounds through it I can still smell faint traces of burning oil.  Unless you want to deal with the running in process like I am, you're on the right lines to be looking for a used R9.  Preferrably, get a Paul Watts tuned used R9.  That would be a jackpot.
Slavia CZ 634 .177, Crosman Quest 800 .22, and Baikal IZH 513 .22.

Dad said no. But i think it was a good sign. Because today we passed a used car lot, and i noticed aloud that they have a nice old toyota pickup that i like, and he said i really liked mine. I said we should look at it, and then there was silence. the kind of silence that means i'll think about it. Also he has said nothing about my notice of what i want for my birthday. I put a shortcut in the middle of the computer screen desktop that says "What i want for my birthday". Its a link to pyramyds listing of the Disco pump combo. So hopwfully he say it, and will order it. I think i will keep looking, and see whats out there, but if anyone would sell me a gun, i would be interested.

Used FWB300 is as accurate as it gets. No recoil and quality built by them germans. I've used mine to shoot flies at 10m and dragonflies at 30m. Add a merlin spring and it will be shooting at about 200m/s which is good enough for pest control at medium ranges. With a nice scope you can decide whether you want to shoot the eye out or place the shot just behind the eye ;)
If some is good and more is better - then too much is just right.
