You would not belive how many knives I have.I always  have a blade on me at all times! My most used for work would be my schrade or Klein folding hawkbill and the SOG KILOWATT.I always have one for defence my favorites would be my Berreta with a 4" skeletonized blade,Kershaw Lockliner,Smith & Wesson Bullseye and millitary issue knives,I have fixed and folding blade hunting and millitary knives of all sorts, every one of which I consider to be a tool for a certain job and would never be without!

I've got a few good kinives.  A Dacor diving knife I used while in Hawaii thirty-some years ago - built like a tank and my pick for a survival knife.  Picked up a nice silghtly used Buck Kalinga.  A friend at work had one and always talked about it.  Really well made for a production knife.  Have a little fixed blade knife which is entirely handmade, two piece bone handle and completely chased metal scabbard that looks to have been made from silver coins.  Couple of very thin Greek (?) tied to it, with one bearing initials and 1947.  Dandy letter opener or super-fancy patch knife.  A medium sized German Bowie I bought to hunt with but never did.  An 1868 French Chasspot bayonette.  My circa 1980 Swiss Army knife.  Stuff like that.

In no particular order:

Spyderco
Kershaw
Benchmade
Chris Reeve
Busse
Swamp Rat

Most of my current EDC knives are Benchmade.  My hunting knives are all Swamp Rat (I've sold all of my Busse; Swamp Rat are nearly as good and a lot less dinero).
Any knife made by one of the first three companies would serve you well.  I personally don't care for any of their overseas-made models (all three companies have a lot of high quality made-in-USA models), but those are a very good value.
