BSA Ultra Re-Visited
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:39:37 AM »

Well folks I have beat my record on pellets shot in two days..:) A box of Premiers .177's. Started out setting up my new Crosman Marauder and shooting it for three days..:) Thought I could not get enough time alone with her..:) But I do have a couple more PCP's in the closet..:) Needed to give them some attention also.

So I broke out my BSA Ultra Multishot .177. It has been a couple months since I have shot her. Loaded her up with pellets and a 3000 psi fill. She will take a 3200 psi fill if I had a tank that could fill her that high.. But anyway she is good for 30 full power shots with a 3000 psi fill. Re-sighted her in using a Hawk 4-12X40 AO scope. At thirty yards she was stacking pellets..:) I had almost forgot how accurate the BSA Ultra was. Of course the BSA Ultra is the smallest size PCP that I have next to the CZ S-200 TR. The nice feature about the Ultra is she is very easy to shoulder and shoot because of her size and the way the stock is made. She actually fits me like a glove. I have to say she is the most comfortable shooting PCP that I have. Being only 38" long and under 7 lbs in weight.

My point is to introduce the BSA Ultra to some of you who have not heard or seen one of these great shooters. When I first bought a BSA it was the BSA Lightning Springer .177. The esthetics are almost identical to the BSA Ultra and the overall length the same.

So my next BSA purchase was the Ultra and boy was I happy to get her. A real pleasure to shoot and light weight to boot.

THE ONES I SLEEP WITH: BSA Lightning XL, AA TX-200, AA ProSport, BSA Ultra, HW-97K, Crosman NPSS .177, FX Cyclone, HW-30 Nicle Plated, AA-S200, Crosman Marauder, CZ-634, R-9 DG, Webley/Scott UK Tomahawk, Benji Kantana, Benji Marauder, Benji Discovery.....

I completely agree Gene. My Ultra is my "go to" gun when an avian pest needs to leave my yard (in a recycled plastic bag grave). My little Ultra has downed more pest birds than I can count. What a great little carbine.

Well Sis, I think we are alone on this one..:) But your right, the Ultra is easy to pic up aim shoot. I always keep my mag full and also a full fill in the tube..:) Today Ernie and I did some target shooting at a 30 yard target with a 1/2" bulls. I am pleased to say I blew out the 1/2" bulls on all 4 targets. No flyers or missed shots. A great feeling when you can pick up a shooter and hit your spot consistantly. That proves to me that the BSA Ultra is one fine shooter.

Not to worry air gun buddy..:) I played with my Shadow .20 this afternoon and she is still hitting the bulls just fine with plenty of punch. Last I chronied her she was putting out 830 fps with Beeman FTS 11.5 gn pellets. Nothing like the challenge of shooting my springers buddy..:)

Gene, I scored me some mounts and your(I mean MY) HW77 is gonna get to wear the Leupold 6.5x20 again. I'll be pulling it off the B-26-2 and fitting it with the Bushnell 4x12.

I got a scuba tank and all the fittings, they just don't fit an airgun........ They are made for reef diving and someday soon, shooting my OTHER airgun!!

Well Gene ... you have my support as to the merits of the Ultra ... mind you I must admit that - being very old and set in my ways - I do feel that plastic should be reserved for Tupperware NOT rifle stocks - lol !   On the other hand my .177 Ultra - with BEECH stock - is the only one of my "stable" that sits close to the back door of the cabin, ready to be picked up and used at a moments notice for a few quick shots to keep my eye and hand in.     Sometimes an errant Starling that didn't read the "Only Song-Birds Allowed" sign posted over the bird feeders .... more often though it's at one of the golf whiffle-balls, dangling from fine wires all over the orchard at random distances out to 60 yards .... then there's also the li'l empty DanActiv bottles perched upside down on surveyors' flag wires down under the trees - (score 1 point for a hit ... 2 points if they "spring" off the wires when hit at the exact spot ).

A perfect rifle, the Ultra ...  even my eldest son, the weird left-handed one ... finds it to be the only one of my air rifles that he can use !

Gene, how does the BSA stack up in comparison to your FX Cyclone?

Joshua, there is a big difference in power between the Ultra and FX. That being said they both are tack drivers. The Ultra is a true 12 FPE target rifle where the FX is much more versitile. The FX will exceed 30 FPE. The FX is more suited for hunting than target shooting or match shooting. They are both light weight and have a super quality synthetic stocks. IMO they both have two seperate functions of use. Although the Ultra can take down small game but limited to distance where the FX is good to go up to 50 or 60 yards with a well placed shot. Hope that helps. Peak Chick was the one who turned me on about the Ultra and it is one of the best PCP's that I own.
