B3 shooting
« on: June 01, 2009, 07:18:29 AM »
I am shooting my B3 quite a bit, along with my other airguns. Despite the fact that it takes a lot of shooting to get really good groups from this gun, I find myself grabbing it more often than my more accurate and consistent air rifles. I have Sundays and Mondays off, and I find Monday mornings about 9:30 a good time to shoot in my yard as most folks re on their way to work and I won't bother anyone. I start with my Remington Airmaster 77 because it's quiet. Then, after a bit, I break out the B3. The B3 is a hard gun to shoot well so far. After maybe 300 rounds, it still smokes after each shot too.
I recently bought some Beeman #1230 Chinese made .177 caliber hollow points. They look a lot like the Beeman Silver Bears that have shot really well in several of my guns, so I thought I'd try some out.The shoot pretty well through my Remington, but I do get occasional "wild" flyers. And this gun just never gets "wild" flyers! They shoot very well in my Crosman 1077 CO2 rifle though.Today, when I broke out the B3, I tried these pellets, the RWS Hobbys (which the B3 at least gets nice round groups), and some Gamo Magnums, which the B3 had already shown it likes (sometimes). I got a nice 3/8" three shot group with the B3 and the Chinese Beemans from 10 yards off my table and bench rest. Then I nailed a nice 3/16" group with the Gamo Magnums-the best I've done yet with this gun.
I'm a stuborn guy and will keep getting to know this gun and trying to shoot it well.

Out of curiousity what type of hold does your B3 prefer? tight or loose.  Have found that with a nice tight hold sitting cross legged I can consistently get 1 inch or so 5 shot groups at 25 ft with no supports using iron sights and gamo match pellets.  Occasionally get a flyer but I think it is more me than the gun.  Have found the Gamo wadcutters to be pretty reliable and consistently formed.

I'm shooting mine as well. I have some Copenhagen lids scattered around my yard taped to bricks and I'm having a blast punching holes in them. They are from 12 yards to 25 yards out and I'm starting to get a feel for where to aim with the open sights.

These two are 12 and 18 yrds out. I've found by holding the B-3 tight against my shoulder and propped out the window I can hit them most every time with Gamo Hunters.

I have a couple of B3s. One, I had to scope because the rear sight ran out of adjustment and it was still shooting like 5 inches to the left. The other , I haven't really started experimenting with yet.

I like mine. I have guns that would go past $1000.00 with optics to use but this one stays out in my shop ready for action. Grab, cock, load, shoot. I have torn it down several times just to play with it and learn how it works. FUN. I'm gonna be getting more of these Chinese guns.

If I get bored piddling,I grab the B-3 and poke it out the window and ding a can lid.

I just traded a guy an old chainsaw for a B-3 that he had only put 5 pellets through. He got it for his b-day but already had a pellet gun and wasn't interested in the B-3. He posted the trade ad on C-list and so I thought I'd get rid of this old chainsaw that hadn't been used in years.

So, that's what I did and now I have a B-3. I have shot about 30 pellets through it and can't get it to sight in using the iron sights. They are adjusted as low as they'll go and it still shoots 6 inches too high. I guess I'll have to put a cheap scope on the thing.

Why don't you put a straightedge along side the action and messure the barrel at the breach end and at the sight end on both sides and see if the barrel is straight, if not just put the barrel in a vise and pull till it is straightend out howie

Barrels of these are often like this:

So outer measurements don´t always tell all of direction of bore.

Did some pretty good B3 shooting today after work. The gun is still showing a preference for Gamo Magnums and RWS Hobbys. I also tried some Beeman SilverBears with nice results. But I got my best group yet with this gun today shooting RWS Hobbys. Got a nice 1/8" three shot group at ten yards.

I live a little north west of the fairgrounds on the flatlands of old Puyallup (not on South Hill thank God).

It's just so crowded up there. They seem to be doing non stop building all the time.

if you are shooting too  high You could pull off that shroud and put a taller post up in front.  I had to do the opposite.  seems to be a pretty common problem.  Cheaper than a scope.  Is your rear site behind or in front of the breach?  Mine is on the back and mounts where a scope would go.  not so good for someone with the typical short arm syndrome.

My second B3 is shooting well with the open sights, and it's is fully adjustable to shoot where I want it to. It shot a nice, but smoky, group with RWS Hobbys today. I'm almost afraid to scope it because I've had such mediocre luck with scopes and my springers.
