You Guys Are Killing Me!!!
« on: June 01, 2009, 07:32:08 AM »
I think I have become adicted to airguns!  12 months ago I had one airgun (a Chinese B2) that had been sitting in my closet for years.  It didn't shoot well and I began looking for information on the internet about how to fix it and found this site.  I have purchased 3 more since then!  Every time I see a thread about how well someone is doing with their new rifle or something new to do with them - - I want to purchase another!!!  The rifles I have shoot well, but already I have given 2 away because I dont NEED 4 air rifles.  One went to a young man who really wanted to learn to shoot, but who grew up without a dad to teach him.  Another, I gave to a boy who lives in the country and is just old enough to learn to shoot.  Every time I see a new thread, I want to click my mouse and order another.  I can aford more, I just don't know what I will do with more.   If you guys will just quit talking about this or that chinese air rifle, I may not feel the compulsion to order more.

Thanks,

I think you should buy a couple more ,,,,  shoot them for awhile and then give them to me  !!  :)

Seriously though,,,, they are addictive to say the least....  I keep telling myself I don't "NEED" all the air rifles I have but then I take them out into my backyard range and start shooting and I just have to keep them  :)

You don't need FOUR airrifles? Umm, yeah.

Ok... just don't look at those cute little QB57s. You've seen 'em already, I bet. Only about $60, good little stocking stuffers or whatever, and deadly in the right hands. Very unique takedown rifles.

Of course you've been through the B26, one of the best values in air gunning, no need to go back over those.

Now here comes a B25 diana 34 clone.

Say, how many PISTOLS you got? No 1377? Criminey, an American Classic with endless mod possibilities for $50?

Seriously, it's great that you are turning another generation on to some serious little shooters. That is really cool.

Steroid Sheridan rocker, Daisy 990, SS1000, B26-2, QB-57, Crosman 150 (TW), Crosman 1377 x 2,  RWS5G, MP513, IZH53, RWS9N/Cometa, MP661k Drozd, Walther Falcon Hunter, RWS 34 Panther, XS-B3-1, Cummins B3s, RWS94 Cometa x 2, RWS48, Beeman R7, Daisy Avanti 853, RWS92 Cometa 220, Beeman P3, IZH-46M x 2, Daisy Avanti 747, Diana 24, B5-10, BSA Lightning .22, Crosman Marauder #39 .22, Crosman 1322 Phase 1, Diana Model 20, HW70, Shin Sung Dragon Slayer .50, Haenel Model 26, Slavia 620, HW45/.177

I know exactly where you are -- and I don't even tune! I started shooting again about 18 months ago with an old Daisy 881, which I broke, just to get me away from the computer (which I'm at 7 days for work/jobs). I used to use it when I was a kid to snipe rats. Simultaneous to me ordering a Daisy 953, my brother replaced my 881 with an 880. Soon after the 953, I ordered a Hammerli 490 and Ruger Air Hawk break barrels, one after the other, which I returned as I was already getting picky and didn't think these provided what I wanted. Next I purchased a TF97, which I liked -- an underlever. I shot that for about 5-6 months and then bought a TF89 to up my power, not sure I'd like the breakbarrel after experiences with the other two. I love the TF89. I still have the 881, 880, 953, TF97, and I'm looking for another, but this time a .22. Probably one of the following:

TF89
XS-B26
XS-B28
RWS Diana 34
(suggestions??)

What do I do with them? The 880 and 881 don't do much these days. The 953 gets an occasional target shooting session. The TF97 comes out once every few weeks just to be sure it is still behaving. The TF89 -- out virtually every day eating up pellets that I shoot into stumps, pill bottles, chips of wood, toy soldiers, figurines...The other day I took one shot at a bull 35 yards and hit dead center -- a little lucky, I think, but then I plunked a chive flower at 25 yards, the tip of a fence post at 30...my scope is getting zoned in tight, and I'm holding the rifle better -- and I've got a better rifle to shoot. But now I hear the .22 hits harder...At this point I WISH I had rats, as I'd like to see what I can do compared to the ol' 881!

May just be a passing fad, I dunno, but it is tons of fun right now, and I don't get a chance to have a lot of fun otherwise...

don't feel bad... 3 months ago i had a 21 year old crosman1377... then i found that cobra airguns was literally 1.8 mile s away from home. looking for a 1399 stock for it i popped in... HUGE MISTAKE!!! i haven't left that store yet... I grew up with my dad's diana 34, and when i saw that you could have a nbrand spanking new one on 2009 i bought it. that rekindled the flame. next day i spent reacquainting with an old friend. great memories flooded, and i declared war to the starlings... went back the next day and decided that i was going to get the rifle that the "grown kids" had. So i got the classic blue streak C9... after that i got a lighter hunter for those long forays in the woods... a Gamo shadow 1000 joined the family. Spent nights researching all the new models that had cropped up in the last 20 years, decided that i wanted to try C02, and found a little rifle that seems to be on his way out, so i got one before they dissapear. Enter the crosman 1077. Hunting went well but i wanted a quieter rifle (i live in a non friendly zone). Hung the sheridan on the wall of honor and got a little wonder called Daisy 22SG. my first .22 caliber... I LOVE THAT RIFLE!!! multipump, super quiet and at 7 pumps packs enough punch to drop a crow at 25 yards. now i had a .22, obviously i need the same in a .177. Next came the crosman 2100. Nice and reliable, became my trunk gun...never leave home without it. the 1077 gave me a taste of co2, and i liked it. i also wanted to try on .22 so i got a QB78 to try my hand at tuning. My qb wears a 4x32 and shoots rws hobbys 11.9 gr at 603 fps all day long and gets 60 solid shots! plus it just became really quiet. Then i realized that there was beautifully finished rifle on the rack and i asked to see it. It was a BSA supersport. it was love at first sight. took that home and put it thru its paces. unfortunately it broke my heart by chewing its own breach seals, so it was returned. It was so powerful and smooth. Snping at 55/60 yards was what it was bred for. Once gone i went thru a period of denial... as a rebound i picked up an air arms s200, to try my hand (and biceps ) at PCP.it's.... ok. Good rifle, very accurate, but it carries an air of impracticality (pumps, scuba tanks...). Finally i decided that a springer would cure my bang bang blues, so went back to Cobra and Dave  introduced me to my current love, a Beeman R9 .20. Excellent hunter, though it is not a modest rifle, and when it impacts it makes a very strong thud. Then genius struk, and i went back and got my R9 a friend, so i brought home a R7. now that is a great little gun. I left that unscoped and started to re exercise my open sight aiming. That is a no frills gun. just simple ad reliable. Then i wanted to learn more about tuning, so i went and got a chinese b3-1. It went from 590 fps to 680 fps in no time and refinished it nicely. Now it is not ashamed to hang in the rack with the patrician rifles costing almost 10 times more (and getting used 10 times less...lol).  I never bought anything on line so i decided to give it a go. But what to buy??? the answer came in the shape of a beautiful 30 year old BSA meteor, which landed yesterday and last night it took its first target at 25 yards. it reminds me of my supersport, but in many ways is better, quieter, broken in and smooth. am i forgetting someone? Oh yeah... last week i was able to get a 2250xe crosman used, just because its starnge looking and it shoots really good. so that is my family of air rifles. Somewhere in there i also got a 2240, but that is just for pest control (i told the wife...lmao). I have a problem. I have been using air rifles for the past 4 months and i can't stop. But i like it. Maybe we should form a support group... Wait... this is my support group. (if anyone tries to stop me on an intervention they would get a .177 size pain in the butt.)

you don't have a problem, it is a gift. it will bring back memories that will make you smile.

Fisherdude.   Just saw your post today.  You are not addicted.  You are suffering from the AG  FLU!  Symtoms are; you will  get worse then better then worse then better.  You get the idea?  The main thing is try to infect as many others as possible.   But it is not a bad thing.  After all , we are a country of riflemen and shooting and enjoying AG's is just a part of that heritage.

I got the AG Flu 1/09 and now have 3 moderately priced rifles.  And they see more use than my rimfire and center-fire rifles.

FLU-US AIRGUN-US.  this is the latin name.LOL

« Reply #10 on: June 03, 2009, 03:23:35 AM »
Now, if you just finished reading Gabe's post, let me add just a bit....

Like Gabe, I recently became AG "reborn"...

I had my 760 and 1377 growing up (kept @ my uncle's house in Ronkonkoma, since I "couldn't have" them in Queens where I lived), and many long days of youth were spent with my cousin Marc and his friends on endless bird and pest "safaris" in the thick woods that were still abundant in Ronkonkoma. It was a blast to say the least.
So, talking with my cousin @ a family get-together, and we get to telling my sons (who are 15 and 13) some of our stories, and my sons seemed quite interested, so I began to search the web (googled "air guns" "long island" = destination Cobra!). So, I stopped in one Saturday in early March, and met Dave, and considering it was still pretty much winter, needless to say Cobra was buzzing and busy, with many customers in and out, plenty of people talking air guns..... it was like a "new drug" - but it wasn't new at all - the fascination from 30 years ago was back - but now I would have the real treat of introducing my two sons to it....
Anyway, I made my next visit in to Cobra on a Monday off, and I had the pleasure of meeting Gabe, who was most outgoing, friendly, and happy to share his knowledge, insight and introduce me to virtually every weapon in the shop and was able to impart details about each one. Not to mention, but for anyone within driving distance of Cobra, the best part is not just the friendly staff and people you meet at Cobra, but being able to handle and try so many different types of air guns. Talk about "TOYLAND"!

Well, needless to say not unlike Gabe I have been pretty much like a piece of "furniture" at Cobra since mid March. I cannot say that I currently hold the arsenal that Gabe does, but my sons and I have been thoroughly enjoying a .22 QB78D(w BSA 2x7-32), .177 Whisper Deluxe(had a problem with the Gamo scope, so mounted a 3x9-32 Leapers I bought from Dave), .177 850 AirMagnum(3x9-32 Bushy), and the Beretta CX4 Storm(my ultimate "fun gun" to date), all "adopted" from Cobra ;-) ! Add in a few air pistols (Crosman 1088 and C11, Daisy 5501 and 15xt), and a Shadow Express (from Wallyworld - my son "had to check out!"), and we've been having a blast, whether in the backyard range (20-25 yds for the rifles, and set up 10 yds for the pistols), or heading out to the woods. The birds have been dropping, and both of my sons are having fun, and seem to be developing into pretty decent shots. Best thing about it all? The time we're spending together doing something we enjoy and passing this along to them for years to come.

Anyway - I know this post has been WAY TO LONG - it is my pleasure to have met Dave, Gabe and all the COBRA crew. I am looking forward to my sons and I enjoying the AG hobby and the great people around it now and in the future.

Be Safe, Have Fun, Shoot Well.
