B-26-2 Ordered
« on: June 02, 2009, 03:17:38 PM »

Just pushed the button on a B-26-2 with the new lower comb stock in .22 from Mike Melick

Now comes the waiting and anticipation

Will be mounting a Leapers 3 X 9 X 32 AO on her. Any suggestions on which mount to use? I have a medium high Accushot but it probably will not be high enough.

I have a B26-2 low comb and found out you need to use a high mount, at least I did. I also mounted the Leapers Golden Image 3x9x32 which seems just right on it. I had the Leapers med 1 pc mount on it for awhile but it was just too low. I now have a BKL 1 pc high mount on it.

I just put that scope on my B-26 using the Leapers Accushot 1-Pc Bi-directional Offset Mount.
The scope is pretty short and if your going to use the scope stop holes, you'll need a compact mount and the offset to get the eye relief right.
If you're not using the stop holes, you still need a  compact mount because there's not much room between the tube and turrents.
Unless you go with a two piece setup.
It is the bottom one in the photo. The top one is my B-25

So how do you compare your b25 vs b26?  I just got my b25 in .22  and think its okay.  Seems under powered.  Shooting 650 fps using Daisy wadcutters.  What kind of velocity are you getting?

I'm interested in the 26 in .22 too since MM says they might not be importing them anymore.

Your first hand experience would be invaluable.

I have the Accushot medium on mine with the same scope as yours.  It's a perfect match.

The high mounts were prefered on earlier B26-s's that had the high comb.  I suspect you will be just fine with the medium.  The B26 will do better with a one-piece like the Accushot you mentioned.

Both of them are new, so neither is broken in yet.

I have to say that I like the .22 cal B-25. Being already tuned, it loads real smooth and shoots with a nice thud no twang.
My 26 is .177 and not tuned yet. It is not as smooth loading, but there is no twang either.
So, while it should be tuned, it appears to have come pretty good to start with.
I like the B-26 better. So much so that I just ordered a .22 B-26 from MM before there all gone. They are two different animals to me.
Not because my B-26 is .177  but because the trigger action is smoother. Maybe that will change after I polish the trigger on the B-25.
I don't feel two distinct stages on the B-26 trigger like I feel on the B-25. It's a smooth light pull and bang.
On the B-25, the first stage is real light then the second stage stiffer but long. You can anticipate the break, but it's too long for me.
I use the B-26 for target shooting and pests; the B-25 is strictly for tree rats ( that is after I put a few thousand pellets through it for fun), so the two distinct stages work better for me.
Some times you have to back off. The B-26 is quick no room for error.
You can let off the 25 from the second stage and regroup, so maybe the two stages are better in that sense.
It would be nice to be shorter though. ( I can't seem to stress that point enough)

I don't have a chrono yet, so I can only give you the FPS that Mike M put on the B-25 box after he tuned it.
RWS Hobby - 770
RWS Superdome - 732
Peak 13.98 gr - 700

Have you tuned it yet?

They are both real accurate. I was easily hitting a 2" spinner at 40 yds. with the B-26 just resting on a tree limb.
I have only been able to shoot a 10M target in the yard with the B-25, but 5 shot groups where all touching, and I'm not that steady.
Both are scoped of course.

The B-26 is a little lighter, but the B-25 comes up to my shoulder better. I think the stock is a little longer than the B-26.
My B-26 stock is nicely finished. The stock finish is uniform. There are some areas on the B-25 where the bare wood color shows through.
Maybe the luck of the draw who knows. You have to remember that the B-25 is also cheaper, so that may be the difference in fit and finish.

I hope my opinion helps...good shooting.

That is very helpful.  I really like the b25 in .22 but can't make up my mind on the b26.  I think I might get one from MM.  I'm tempted on the .177 but I have a Gamo Big Cat that I home tuned and it shoots the lights out.  I also picked up a Summit .177 that while nice and smooth isn't as accurate.  I'm contemplating selling the Summit to put towards a b26 but it is so well made...Ah decisions decisions.  Okay I think b26 in .22!

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Neil. That's just what I needed to know. I was going to go ahead and order the high mount but now I think I'll just wait and see how the medium works. BTW - how do you like yours?

I Love it!  It's fairly light, very powerful, and accurate.  Has a JM spring in it.  Smooth and wonderful.

It's the sort of springer that once you have it, you don't really need another one.  You will want others, but you will not need them!

Dan, I am about to push the button on a B26. I noticed in your picture that the front and rear sights on your gun have been removed. Are they easy to remove? I would like to get a muzzlebrake to put on mine. Thanks!  Terry

Yes, just a few philips screws. I put a couple of set screws in the rear sight holes to protect the threads in case I ever want to put them back on.
The front just clamps on.
Do it...you won't regret it.
