Looking for info on .22 spring gun
« on: June 03, 2009, 01:55:37 PM »
I had asked for some advise and opinions on a spring gun and I got what I asked for. I really didn't expect all the positive info from all you people and I just wanted to say: Thank You ! I settled on a B26-2.
I purchased this airgun from BCSHOOTER,class guy there. It came in this morning and I didn't waste any time putting the scope back on. I can shoot off my back porch and that along with a fine sunny day and a spring gun in my hand.frosting on the cake.BC was kind enough to send along some AMMO. Its all gone. I have spent alot of time reading everything I could to refresh myself with the SPRINGER GUN again.I am physically and mentally tired this evening. The pellets: 2 kinds of wad cutter,1W/ little lines or grooves on skirt and the other a plain wad cutter. Then it looked like a crossman hollow point and a round nose. Not bad. I had bought a box of hunting point and crossman premier hollow point.
What I did notice is that the box of premiers fit into the gun very tight, but did chamber. Is that common for them? I have not had a spring gun in my hands in 30 yrs, so I'm in green fields here. They also shot about 1 1/2" higher than any other pellets. I was still in process of sighting in so I just left those alone for a bit.The scope that came along is a 3-9x50 AO Centerpoint w/ leapers mount.Seems to be a nice hunk of glass.Hey, my eyes are getting tired. My open site shooting is just sqeezeing the trigger now. And cross my fingers of course.
Before I even mounted scope I loaded and shot into the ground, off of porch.Wanted to make sure she was going to cycle before getting serious. My wife says.smoke out of the barrell. I says to her-just a bit of dust is all. There wasn't any dieseling or put-putting. Maybe a drop in the chamber for the new guy, don't know. It seems to be a shooter to me. I just have to learn the gun now.
I had read about adjusting the trigger and I lightened it up a bit more. I would like to get that creep out of trigger,if there is any its more than what I like personally.Just a clean break if possible. Can anybody out there  help or give me advise on that. A 1-1 1/2# is what I like. Is that pushing it for a spring gun?I don't want it anywhere in the danger-red area.
Got kind of long winded , but again, thanks for your advise.
Have a good day.

Jerry,,,,,

Glad to hear you're liking your new shooter....  Sounds like you're in for a lot of fun setting that rifle up the way you want.

As for the premiers fitting snugly,,, that can happen.  I have some guns where the CPL's are very tight and others where they are loose.

Pick a pellet that the rifle shoots decent, sight it in best you can and then do grouping tests on all your other pellets by shooting 5 or 10 shot groups.  When you're finished you'll be able to easily see which pellets your rifle likes the best and out of them pick the best pellet.   Then you're all set.

I'll be looking forward to your future posts.....

Likewise, glad to hear you got it and it seems to be working! That 50mm objective is a lot of help.

I really don't know what's possible with that trigger since mine is a hunter and I keep it a little heavier. If you search up some of mikeiniowa's posts there are always nuggets to be found.

How is it grouping for you? One thing to check (and keep checking) is that the stock screws are tight, including the one behind the trigger guard. Blue Loc-tite can be a big help with that. The looser they get, the bigger the groups.

I found the safety didn't always reset if I closed the barrel too gently.

Try some RWS Superdomes if you get a chance.
