yet another b3 project,...........and its all your fault

since joining the forum, ive found a new joy in tinkering with the airguns ive aquired. here are a few pics of one of the two b3s i found a couple months back.

this one has had a basic degrease/clean, tune using stock but smoothed internals and for now the factory spring.

the stock has been reshaped for an easier grip and trigger access, fore-end grooves have been filled and the factory laquer finish removed and recovered with three coats of bedliner.

the factory sights have been removed entirely, and were replaced with beeman mounts and a tasco 3x9x40 scope that "just" clears the loading port.

the barrel has been shrouded,........using the aluminum cylinder from a hatchback pnuematic lift cylinder; the piston and rod were removed and surprisingly the internal diameter was a close match to the barrel o.d. at the breech end, the shround has been countersunk to fit over the exposed threads, at the muzzle where the barrel tapers, a single neoprene o-ring provides an interference fit keeping the shroud from moving. the stepped portion of the barrel is now covered with one of "metalmanmatts" muzzle breaks. matt was provided the measurements needed and the muzzle break fits exactly !!

more work is waiting on the arrival of a new spring and seal kit. for now, its a definite blast to shoot aand modify !!

I have two.They aren't tack drivers, but shoot pretty well. I made a new breech seal for my first one, as the original seal started coming apart, as in little slivers of it slicing off. I used a small piece of 5/16th" rubber fuel line, and it's shooting much better groups now.Some, with it's favorite pellets, are on the order of 1/4" at 10 yards from a table with a small portable bench rest. But it's fun to shoot.My second one I haven't hardly shot yet.The first has a much better trigger than the second.

surprisingly, both of my b3s ( ,22caliber) will stack pellets consistently out to about 15 meters, and will tear one ragged hole at about 10 meters. beyond that the groups open up , but not so much that a rodent ( squirrel ? ) size target  cant be hit.
neither was "pellet" picky, however both shot consistently to the left by about 2 to 3  inches. elevation however was spot on.
after running out of windage adjustment, i just did away with the iron sights altogether.
triggerwise,........its a crapshoot. the black one pictured hada horrible, gritty trigger. turned out to be a triigger pin that had walked out of the reciever and machining marks on the sear. both were easy fixes.
costwise, they cant be beat.............and the support, tech info and modifications found online would amaze you

I really like my B3. Purchased online for less than 25 bucks, then
modified to suit my tastes. I also like the fact that it is a 22 cal
shooter. I also installed a full brushed nickel shroud and cocking
lever. The only thing I don't like about underlevers is that they
are heavier and a decent scope will partially obstruct loading.

They are heavy. I put a Leapers 3x9 airgun scope on one of my B3s, and it does get in the way of loading a bit, but it's managable for me.

shadow,.....any pics of how/where on the forearm you mounted your bipod ? also..........what bipod did you use ?

Jim the bipod came with the TAC1 that mount's on the barrel with a weaver rail setup. I try to shy away from mounting bipod's on a barrel and the TAC1 didn't need it so I just mounted it to the bottom of the B stock.  This B3 has the two piece cocking arm rail so I installed a guide and slide pin on the bottom of the action, you can see it in the pic so that the linkage wouldn't engage the mount. I did some measuring, centering on the mount and secured it to the stock with wood screw's. It's mounted far enough back so that when cocking the shooter the mount and bipod itself doesn't interfere with the cocking action. Nice and solid and nothing like laying out and getting em from the turf. I just completed some tune updates on the B so I'm still breaking her in again, I tear em down every two to three months just to check for wear which is next to none and that's always a good thing. Jeeze Jim, great going....you've convinced me to tune my B-21! I was planning to do it later in the coming months when it gets cooler, being as that my garage is like an oven during this heat! Great inspiration indeed, and thanks for linking me here =] Oh by the way, are you planning to do anything else to your B-3?
