I tried to put a scope on my Hammerli Titan (AR1000) this afternoon and ran into a problem. I ran out of left windage adjustment when I shouldn't have. The scope (Tasco Golden Antler) worked fine on my former RWS 460 but wouldn't work on the Titan. I remounted it 3 times - no change. I then shot the Titan using the iron sights and the gun shot fine. Breech block seems aligned and there is no side to side movement. So in my limited estimation it is either the scope went bad or the barrel is bent somehow. I took the Titan back from a friend's son after he had it 6 months and didn't pay me. Don't know what he did to it. Firing cycle is really rough. Has a significant twang now where it only mildly twanged before. The crown is all scratched up. He may have used it as a jack handle for his car or to pry up rock for all I know. Anybody got an opinion whether it could be my scope or the gun? All help appreciated!.  Terry

Can you try another scope?  The scope may be damaged.  Was it on the AG when it was out of your presence?   Since it shoots well with open sights it would seem  possible that the scope is at fault.    

Don't you just hate it when others don't treat another person's property well.   Your generosity was abused.

I agree with Bogie, If its shooting fine with the open sights something in the scope or mounts has to be the problem.

Don't have another scope at the moment.  I'm about to send Mr. MM some money for one of his sweet B26. I was going to use the Tasco on the B26 until I got a better scope. I'll probably have to wait until I get Mike's gun and try the Tasco on it - if it doesn't work on the B26 then it is definitely the scope. I was hoping to find out if the scope is bad so that I could order another scope in time to get it when I get the B26.  Thanks!!  Terry

Try this...remove one of the mounts and flip it.  See if you can sight in then.  If not then flip both.  Try to sight in again.  If this works then you know you have bad mounts but then again it worked.  If it doesn't is it possible your dovetail groove may be machined off.  You could file it a little (not recommended unless you know what you are doing) or get windage adjustable mounts.

I have already flipped them and reflipped them singularly  and both at the same time.  As far as the gun, it came with a scope and then I added this scope - both shot fine on the same mounts.  I did this before I let the guy have my gun. No problems! Is it possible for someone to bend a barrel unintentionally?  And with the front sights being on the breech block, would it still shoot straight? Thanks!  Terry

Ahh more information.  If I"m understanding you it was shooting fine before you loaned it out.  If it shoots fine with open sights I don't thin it is a bent barrel.  If it was bent then you'd have problems with windage on your rear sight too...at least I would think.  I'm not familiar with the Tasco Golden Antler but are you sure it is airgun rated?  I think the AR1000 is a pretty powerful gun shooting in the 1000 fps class.  Depending on how well behaved it is, meaning how violent the recoil, you may have destroyed the scope.  I've usually seen them go blurry or the crosshairs get messed up  but I think that your symptom may also point to a toasted scope.  I also think that if you had this scope on  a 460 then it didn't live a comfy early life either.  I think the 460 has a pretty decent kick to it as well.  

It wasnt' dropped or anything was it?  I would guess damage to the scope/bent tube would be evident?

It does not take much to damage a scope. If it is sitting against a wall and it falls over with scope on it, that would pretty much finish off a scope...:(

Gene, I'm hoping it's the scope. I hope to someday resurrect that Titan. It was a great shooting gun back before I "sold" it to that guy. I needed the money to buy a RWS 460 "magnum" or so I thought. Wish now I had stuck with the Titan and maybe a tune. Oh well, perfect hindsight. Thanks!  Terry
