Not quite a review but just a question about...
« on: June 08, 2009, 08:56:55 AM »
Not a review but a question... I usually cut my CPHP into an "X" to make it mushroom better... But I've recently heard that this is bad for your gun because it will "screw" up your barrel, yet I know people who do this exact thing to 44mags and other HP rounds for power-burners... So my question is,,, Did doing this to your pellets screw up your barrel? If so do you have any pictures? or any other source that could shed some light on this situation??

If nothing else, it will more than likely give it poor flight characteristics and have an effect in accuracy. I would think you would be better off going to a pellet designed for expansion upon impact.

No, it will not "screw up" your barrel. How could it? The part of the pellet head that you cut,  does not touch the rifling. So it doesn't matter if you cut an X, an O or a diamond in the pellet. It could make the pellet fly less accurately, if you do not make the cuts exact and change the balance or center of gravity.  If you want a pellet that will expand better than the CPHP, try a Predator, RWS Super-H Point or such. Crosman pellets are harder than most and thus tend to expand less than other pellets when driven at the same speed. Now if the CPHP's are the most accurate pellets shoot them. Choose accuracy over expansion every time.
