smooth bore question
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:08:28 PM »
Is it worth getting a turbo tune and a trigger upgrade on my shadow express since it does not have a rifled barrel? my rifle will hold a group at 15 yds. max, but I am going to try new pellets as well.

Just my opinion. You would get the benefits from a turbo tune as in smoother cocking, and a tamer manners. It won't likely however improve your accuracy with your smoothbore barrel. Now that trigger upgrade could help keep you from "pulling" your shots thereby allowing you to shoot your smoothbore as accurately as the gun is capable. With a smoothbore air rifle,15 yard "good groups"  would be acceptable to me.

Honestly I would invest the tune into another shooter where the result's will really shine. :) Yes the tune will make the shooter that you mentioned a pleasure to shoot but imagine what a tune would do for a .177 or .22 rifled shooter, that's where you'll see big result's in performance and accuracy. :D Ed

I got a shadow express and i can group at 25 yards with the daisy wadcutters much better than with other pellets. try a different kind of pellet, that might work. I can hit a soda can 10 out of 10 shots at 25 yards. that is grouping with a smoothbore to me. all shots in a 2 inch circle. are you scoping yours or just using the bead? i use the bead but it takes a lot of practice to shoot it consistenly. You need to shouldered the same way ALL the time to get consistent shots. I took a very small brush and painted the two center grooves on the top rail, just about 1/4 of an inch, and i just sit the beadbellow the 2 inch circle and on top of the 2 white grooves and get consistent shots.
