How do you quiet a springer?
« on: June 23, 2006, 11:25:56 PM »
I have a few springers. My lowest power is a R 7 that I just purchased as a blemished product.
I would like to make this gun "mouse fart" quiet. (not my term - Ed Brown)
I'm not going to ask specifics so the knowledgeable contributors are not restricted in their responses.
I am curious about barrel shrouds and moderators and tuning mods. Also recommendations for "tuners".
Thanks in advance--

I'm not a expert , but most noise from springers , come from the spring being released.  a good lube tune will help deaden the sound of the spring hitting and less noise.  My b26 before a tune was like that, after the tune , just a dull thud sound from the spring.  the term you mention is mostly for 02 guns, as 02 expands and thus the noise.  it can be done, but having a device is legal , if you have the proper paper work from the Gov.

Who are some folks that proved  lube-tune service?

What quiets a springer from the "twang" noise is a good fitting spring guide, a tophat, and some good moly paste on the spring in moderation.

Ron, go to the mall section here , there are several tuners there, any one of them can do it. it might cost ya , but it's well worth the money to have a sweet shooting gun. but like Robert said a complete tune will be even better.
Did you ever get hold of Jerry A or find a Cr70 yet.

Hi Buster - No,I never got ahold of Jerry.
I have 2 good leads on the Cr70. I may try to buy both. Winchester mod70, 308 was my first hi-power hunting rifle. There is some romantic attachment there.

Hmm. With Mark Bolson possibly out of the picture, Ken in Dallas not coming and Tim Johnson being in Lousianna now, I'm starting to wonder too. Guess I better start emailing some people to see about it.

I wasn't aware of the Airgun Fest. We are traveling to visit our daughter.
Would you please contact me off line or through PM with more details?
Thanks

If quiet is what you want, go to the TOG, and enter the first word that comes to mind into the search, there's plenty of detailed info there.  8)
