It's getting really dark now!
« on: June 09, 2009, 01:14:29 PM »
Well, the CZ fever has seized me, I guess.  Here is the latest powderburner:

CZ-527 Varmint in .223 Rem, laminate stock, single set trigger, scoped with a Leapers Mini 3-12X 44mm AO Mil Dot w/ sidewheel.  Now I have to find somewhere to stretch out to 300 yards.

That appears to be a removable box magazine.  Just how many rounds does it hold?  And does this rifle come without a removable box mag?
It is a fine looking shooter, hope it will drive some tacks for you.   Just curious,  what is the twist rate of the barrel rifling.   And do you hand load your ammo.

Yes - removable 5-round box magazine.  An aftermarket single-shot conversion is available.

The twist rate is 1:12  I double checked when I cleaned it the first time.  For $230 more I could have had the kevlar-stocked version with 1:9 -- but I was too cheap.

No, so far, all I do is unload ammo -- out the business end.

I was hot to trot to get myself reloading equipment, but when I checked, there were no primers or powder available to reload, even if I had the brass, bullets, dies and press.  Future project if the "drought" ends.  Until then, I will just unoad some of the 55gr FMJ I have stockpiled and stay away from heavier rounds.  I do have a back order for 1000 small rifle primers.  When they are available, I will also get some powder, a brass tumbler, some light target loads, and probably a Dillon 550B turret press, so I can also reload some of my other long and short man toys.  Current conditions have modified my shooting behavior back towards my powder burners.  But to be cool, one must achieve a well-rounded and proper balance, I think, including air rifles, high-power rifles, rim fires, shotguns and pistols.

PS:  Peak -  If you will ever come to SC for a visit, I will let you shoot my CZ's and play with my puppy.

Hey, Tommy, unless you get REALLY lucky, or they've improved a LOT, I doubt that Leapers is going to cut the mustard at 300 yards :-(.  Both the minis I had had lousy optics, and the longer the range, the worse it got.  Nice looking rifle though, looks like it should be very capable in the "reach out and touch something" category.  If you want to stay with a compact scope, consider a Burris Timberline like I have on my S200.  Later.

The Leapers is temporary.  Just ordered something more appropriate from Joe Cuz.  Hawke Eclipse 4-16X50mm AO sidewheel w/ 30mm tube.  Same scope on the AA S410 ERB.  Very nice for the price.  Thanks Joe.  Check is in the electronic mail.
