Newbie Shadow Pellet Comparison- Long
« on: February 02, 2007, 03:38:42 PM »
Since getting a Shadow 1000 .177 at WalMart a month ago and starting airgunning, I've used this forum for ideas to improve the gun, and my shooting. Got a GRT-lll trigger from CDT, slide and roller kit from Peterdragin, a Tasco Golden Antler 3-9X32 AO scope with an Accushot mount, used the library for articles and links and got lots of advice from the members. Great place.

Enough suck-up! Started with Daisy pointed,( all wallyworld had when I got the gun)- horrible past 20 feet with open sights. Only shot about 100. Maybe 11/2"-2" groups of 10 at 20' with lots flyers and stock trigger from a folding lawn chair.

Daisy wadcutter, next style available at wallyworld, Ok at 10 yds for a newbie-1 1/2"-2" groups of 10 with less flyers. 200 shots with stock trigger. 100 shots with CDT trigger- 1 1/4-1 1/2" groups of 10 at 10 yds. 100shots @ 30 yds- 3"-5" groups, lots flyers.  50 shots with GA scope- 2-4" groups, lots flyers. Built a solid bench from a 2 1/2" solid core door with 1 3/4" tubing legs and a sandbag.

Got a box of 1250 Crosman CPL's 7.9 grain. After about 1100 can shoot consistent 1 1/4-11/2" 10 shot groups at 30 or 50 yards including flyers.

Charlie suggested using something a little heavier, so got a tin of Daystate FT's (JSB Exacts- round head)from AirgunsofArizona today, 8.44 grain, 4.53(what they gave me in a medium weight, said they were the best thing out there today). Shooting groups of 5 at 30 yds:
1. CPL-1 1/2"  2. JSB-3/4" 3. CPL-1 1/4" 4. JSB-7/8" 5. CPL-1 5/8  6.JSB-5/8", 3 in 1 hole!
7. CPL-2" vertical string?  8. JSB- 5/8" ,3 touching, 2 in 1 hole 9. CPL-11/2", 3 within 1/2"
10. JSB-1/2" in a circle. All shot off the bench, sandbag filled with packing peanuts under my left hand, palm open( thanks for the hints, Charlie!)

I think I've found something this gun likes! I was beginning to wonder if my bad eyes and stiff muscles were failing me, but now I've got incentive to get better. Practice is obviously helping too. Can't leave anything alone, guess I'll build a spring compressor and try a disassemble, inspect & lube tune next. Any suggestions on where to get the lubes?

Maybe this needs to be under reviews? Sorry.
