Common B3 velocities
« on: June 10, 2009, 03:54:51 PM »

I just picked up my first B3 the other day and I don't have a chrony. Its seems to have decent power but I'm curious what kind of velocities people generally get with an untuned B3. I should specify pellets weights: 7.9 gr to 8.4 grains are what I shoot, so those would be most applicable velocities. I believe this is the b3-3 model, the newest one...?

I think most of the B series shooters push around the mid 400fps mark. I just tuned two of them for a friend and his son and put em across the chrony before the tune. The first one shot a 280fps avg. :0 and the second one 380fps avg. :0 . I debured, honed, polished and conditioned the leather seals then installed a new spring. When the got them back the first one jumped to 600fps and the second one settled in at 610fps avg.. :) They were pleased with the smoother shooter and consistent accuracy. :) Ed

I just tried a new Cummins B3 out of the box over the chrony. I cleaned it up a little with Goo Gone, including the bore, and let it dry for a bit. Might have been dieseling, but there was no detonation, just the fine mist of internal soy sauce.

Anyway, a two shot string was 593 and 600. I was giving it to a colleague who has the bug, so that was all I did, but I was impressed. Maybe it will settle down with some use, or maybe we got a pick of the litter. Hard to tell with those things. We are gonna open her up and work on it in a few weeks.

I was not able to get the rear sight down enough, like the screw was jammed up or too long, but otherwise it seemed fine.

WOW! them are some good #'s out of the box Dave the two that I just did were the older models that they got off the CUMMINS truck several years back, they shot em several times then put them away. I know that the QC is getting better on the newer models too. :) Ed

Those are good numbers. I know that my gun shoots around 500-600. I can tell by its power that it's putting out at least that. The guy I got it from told me it's an 800fps, but who knows. I know he didn't chrony it

I went out and checked mine today and it shoots 620 with Crosman Premeir Hollow Point pellets. All I did to it was smooth parts and lube tune it.
