Pellet grouping and the GRT111
« on: June 12, 2009, 06:28:21 AM »
Just installed a GRT111 trigger on a Crosman Storm last night but had little time to try it out until today.   First the GRT111 reduced trigger pull between 50% to 75%. Before the change I could keep hits in a horizontal line fairly well,  The hits on average would string out about 1 to 1.5 inches.  With the new trigger at the same distance (30 ft) the group is about 3/8ths of an inch.  Now for the pellet part of this.  The first pellets I shot today were the GAMO Hunters, they printed about 7/8ths of an inch to the right of aiming point.  I was kinda P.O.ed as I thought I had somehow bumped the scope while  installing the trigger. The Hunters grouped well just to the right.  I almost adjusted the scope when I figured that I should put a few CPHPs on the paper.  Good thing I did.  The CPHP gave a 3/8ths dead center on the bull.  The interesting thing is that these 2 pellets have basically the same shape/design.  The only real difference the HP design of the CPHP.   Again, the idea that pellets all shoot somewhat differently from one to another is borne out.  Glad I kept my hands off the scope adjustments.

What you have just found out is all true Bogey. Different pellets groups differently. Too many factors to say to explain everything but the short route to know the idea is to try multiple pellets and record your observations. Iif you want to be a very consistent shooter stick to that brand and type of pellet that will give you the tightest grouping at the bull's area.

A very good trigger like the GRT-III definitely helped you achieved that 3/8" grouping at 30 yards. I for one is using the GRT-III right now on my Crosman G-1 Extreme airgun.

Good luck on your future practice with your Crosman Storm Bogey!

Yep, I've found that each of my guns likes different pellets. One gun shoots great with one pellet, but then another gun hates it. It just takes time and patience to find a good pellet. Also, when switching pellets, shoot at least 10 pellets down the barrel before really testing the grouping. Each pellet has to season the barrel a little before things settle down.

CPHP has been good to me in .177 & .22. My G1 use to only like CPHP in 10.5 but after I chopped it down to 15 inches I was surprised it's shooting CPHP in 7.9 with same grouping as the heavy one. My Beeman RS2, QB78d & Crosman 2240.5 loves CPCH in 14.3/22 cal. I bought a case of chinese domed that look and shaped like gamo hunters and now I'm thinking of melting it and make fishing sinker of out it. Reason i bought it was for breaking in my beeman and messed up my  shooting box. It would be good for shooting gallery so your targets don't get hit. ;o)

Speedturtle,   30ft is the distance I shot at.    NOT 30yards . I appreciate the idea of 3/8ths groups at 90 ft. but it won't be done by me.  I know it was just a typo on your part and I appreciate the praise but I can't claim it.  Besides, I don't want the MARINES at my door to send me to some foreign country to rub out bad guys, because I am such an incredible shot.

Hahaha! Sorry Bogey, My Bad! Hehehe. But in all fairness a 3/8" grouping at 30 yards (I got it right this time) is still achievable bruddah. It's just a matter of time before we could probably see another post of yours depicting such accomplishment on your side.

Just keep practicing and keep us posted.
