Gas Spring Replacement and Tuning for Chinese Springers?
« on: June 13, 2009, 05:23:05 AM »
I think I've decided on getting an AR2000FC in .22 when they are available in a few weeks, probably from Compasseco where they will be available as the TF87. I want to get the new rifle tuned and I'm considering a gas spring replacement to eliminate torque which I think may be causing accuracy problems in other rifles I own. I am not one experienced with tuning myself so I'll have to get it done till I gain the experience I need. A few questions follow that I'd appreciate some feedback on:

* Do you know of anyone that does gas spring upgrades on chinese air rifles?
* Are there any tuning services that may do this that you recommend?
* Does anyone have experience with gas springs and is it worth the update?
* There are a lot of updates that can be made to a given rifle...which have you found to be most useful and satisfying?

Up till now I have been shooting .177 springers with no tuning, and I'm quite sure my accuracy can improve...Right now I'm happy to hit bottle caps consistently at 20 yards with my TF89 and 10.6 grain pellets. I'm hoping the new rifle in .22 with 950FPS will have a lot more striking power, and with the tuning and any upgrades I choose will provide a much refined shooting experience with increased accuracy.

Thanks for any comments!

I'm not sure of anyone doing gas spring mods on chinese airguns.  Pyramid is doing some on Gamos.  However, I think that Crosman is going to introduce a gas powered springer this month.  Hopefully, this will open up a source of parts and options.  At least their web site leads one to believe that they will be doing this sometime in June..   What it will be, I don't know - probably a gas powered break barrell.  I am saving my money so I can get one if it looks good.

Thanks for the reply. It may be that I'll need to get anther gun to go in the direction I want. I'd think about a Gamo if I didn't mistrust their advertising, but stuff like that completely turns me off (e.g., advertise 950FPS, but in small print 700fps with lead). If Crosman is going the way of gas ram, then I may have to reconsider the Benjamin Sheridan silver streak...as maybe their new piston will fit there...
