Just updating the QB photo
« on: June 13, 2009, 07:46:10 AM »
Just updating the QB photo.  Most of them haven’t changed, other than changing tanks on the .25 from 1200 PSI back down to 850 PSI.  Didn’t have any trouble, just didn’t think the difference in performance was worth the extra pressure.

The last “unmolested” QB got chopped up into a 12 gr. carbine.  Reconverted from bulk fill, standard valve reinstalled, and  set for low (about factory standard) power.

I'm thinking of getting a stock 79 and is there a trick/mod on fitting a 9 oz bottle fit wise below the barrel?

Can be a problem, it's a real close fit. Some 9oz. tanks don't have their valves threaded on straight, so they "wobble" a bit when screwed on, and that wobble can contact the barrel...if you get lucky, it "woobbles down" (or to the side) when screwed on tight.  Considering how paintball gun use their tanks hinging free, they makers don't seem to worry about a 1/7" wobble.

Can give you my guess at the reasons for this. the old steel tanks were really just under 2" in diameter, and evidently the Chinese used these when designing the rifle.  The modern Al. tanks are a little LARGER in diameter, so they come closer to contacting the barrel.  the Steel tanks are really too heavy to hang out there unsuported, so we use the common (larger diameter) Al. ones.

I see..went to research this 9 oz chrome moly co2 tank for $13.99 shipped and they appear to be skinnier than the aluminum tanks. I emailed the seller and hopefully they're less than 2" and don't weight much.   http://cgi.ebay.com/New-9-oz-Chrome-moly-co2-Tank_W0QQitemZ200334080456QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea4d779c8&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A0|293%3A2|294%3A30

It will be heavy, but that tank should fit.

typical AL. tank will run  about 15oz. empty (give or take an ounce, depending on what type of pin valve it has) and about 24 oz. full of co2.  I’m remembering the steel tank as being about 22oz. empty and 30 or 31 oz. full of co2.

6oz. isn’t a whole bunch, but considering how the rifle has the tank hanging out in front like a diving board, would be good to handle it with care.

Steel 9oz. tank:

My solution was to find some 3 1/2oz. tanks (the ones WITHOUT the manual on/off knob, the ones using a normal paintball pin valve).  Don’t hold as much co2, but are smaller in diameter, and  lighter.

3.5oz. tank:

I was actually able to fit an aluminum 9 oz under the stock qb79. at the beginning i tried to threaded it and it seemed not to fit. but i started to screw it in and it got easier and easier. It fits and it floats about 0.5 mm below it. I love it! it looks sick, but is nose heavy. looking forward to shooting an entire tin (500 ct) of pellets out of that rifle before i need to go and refill...

Just as an addition.

Can get a pretty simple 12gr. to paintball adaptor ($15):
http://www.paintball-guns-and-supplies.com/df/product.cgi/1295/

Which doesn’t give a whole lot of shots, but can keep you going between tank fill ups.  Being co2 with it’s constant pressure (so long as there is liquid co2 ) you don’t lose speed...but sure don’t get a whole lot of shots from 4/10ths of an ounce of co2.
