A couple questions
« on: June 14, 2009, 03:23:57 PM »
Greets all.. was very happy to find a Discovery Forum.. I'm very close to buying one
of these and just had two questions (this would be my first PCP)  --

1. How loud is loud?  I keep reading that the Discos are louder than people expect.
Can anyone put this into perspective for me?  Also, do the Discos "settle in" at all..
get any quieter?

2. I've got big hands / fingers -- the Discos I've played with (not live, just in box stores),
seem like they have a tight-ish breech .. out of 10 pellets, how many will I actually
get in the gun?  :)

I've love the Marauder, but considering the cost of a pump / scope, it just isn't going
to happen for me.

Do like the feel / weight / size of the Disco though.

Thanks in advance.
Tony

Don't have a Disco myself.....so can't tell you how loud they are and what pellets will fit into the breech.  But I think PCP's don't settle down unless it have a leak somewhere....if it's quiet it's quiet, if it's loud it's going to stay loud.....unless you can adjust the amount of air going out, which then will make it less powerful.  Just my $0.02.

1. ... LOUD! To me it's almost like a .22 short, very much like a .22 blank nail gun but a tad more "sharp" ... JMO, YMMV

2. ... At first 80% but 15% of those will end up backwards. It takes some practice for us ham-handed guys but it can be done although I can't imagine getting a pellet loaded under a scope without a pair of tweezers.

I love the form factor, it's light, short and hits hard. There are a couple guys out there fitting the Disco with a shroud that is supposed to quiet it down but I haven't held one or heard one. Of course the price of someone putting a shroud on your Disco is probably getting close to the price of a Marauder.

Loud,  ridiculasly loud!  not even woods friendly, you must have an  LDC, with curlers makes it back yard friendly   Very nice gun but loud, thats why I bought a Marauder .22.   LOL  21grains

I would think! :)

Yes, not loud enough to require hearing protection but definitely too loud to get a second shot at anything animate or any second animate thing within 100 yards.

Outofstepper,

My son-in-law has a springer and my Disco is definately noticably loader that that.  Like others I would say between a .22 short and .22 CB cap.  I target shoot with mine and don't hunt with it so this is not an issue.  In the future I may look into one of the devices designed to quite them down a bit but I still so not have a good (read as legal) overview of whether they would be an issue in Minnesota were removeable attachments for quieting a weapon and these sorts of things are a no-no.

I have a scope on my Disco and it took a bit to find a reliable way to load pellets, and yes like someone else mentioned I got my fair share in backwards.  I finally found if I layed the pellet on the flat surface on the left side of the port then used my finger to roll it into place it worked great.

This is a very nice shooting, very accurate rifle.  I would like a little more length in the stock but it is very useable right out of the box.

I looked at the pumps and then investigated the scuba tank and found the cost was pretty much the same and decided to go the scuba tank route.  I am glad I did.

I scoped it with a Sweet .22 by BSA 6x18 I beleive and that seems to work just fine.  If you keep an eye out you can get them very reasonably.  And don't forget the rings...

Take the leap you won't regret it...

Is the Marauder legal to own where you are?

If so a permanent shroud device, even baffled, might be an option. I've seen a place on the web that makes such a solution but I don't know how much it costs.
