Maybe a dumb question about qb's
« on: June 17, 2009, 05:05:08 AM »
I haven't found the answer to this in searching so forgive me if this is a stupid question.  Would the barrel from the smaller qb78 fit a qb79 and would that alleviate the tightness many experience when trying to use a 9oz co2 bottle?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

I am pretty sure that the O.D of the 79 and the 78 DELUXE is the same. A non deluxe is abit slimmer, but you should not have a problem with the 79... I fitted an aluminum bottle 9 oz (from walmart )with a bit of cajoling and careful screwing...it fits and it leaves .05 mm in between. I actually wrapped the tank in camo tape (1 layer ) and it actually fits quite nice so give it a shot...

outer diameter of barrels

If I understand correctly, the 79 and 78d are both 15mm od while the 78 is 14mm.  My question revolved around whether the 14mm barrel from a 78 can be used on a 79 and the resultant smaller diameter allow the shooter to put a 9oz on without worry, that is easily removed filled and replaced.  As it is, I keep hearing about crooked (threaded) bottles that touch the barrel.  Just an idea!!!

thanks, joe :emoticon:

Yes, you could fit a standard QB78 barrel to a QB79. And yes it would provide a little more clearance. You may need a little shimming around the QB78 barrel for the QB79 front band to grip tightly, and this front band is positioned so as to prevent the QB78 barrel being used with iron sights. QB78 barrels usually have an o/d in the range between 14.00 to 14.15mm, while the 15mm barrels usually have an o/d between 14.90mm and 15.00mm. So, you would probably gain just under 0.5mm additional clearance by doing this.

Thanks guys, I've been wanting to try the 9oz but had heard so many stories of problems and wanted to know as many options as possible.  I appreciate a forum where I can get help and even answers to some of my dumb questions.

Thanks again guys
