gamo whisper blues
« on: June 23, 2009, 10:30:14 AM »
First off I bought myself a gamo whisper .177  for my birthday im feb. And I am fairly new to adult airguns. Not getting the kind of accuraccy i wanted I tried tightening the stock screws which were bearly threaded in but tight due to the locktite on the treads. Any way I broke the head of one of the screws. So I sent it in for repair only to experience the worst custormer service at Gamo.Well after more than 2 months later and buying a RWS 48 .22 to feed the need.I got the whisper back today, which did get repaired. It has enough spring twang to wake the dead,  extremely rough cocking and has a realy harsh fireing cycle . I am not satisfied with it. What do you all think I should do, try to sent it back for refund ,Try to home tune it or what? If I do get a refund I have my eye on a beeman R-9. Thank you for your comments

I heard the Beeman's workmanship is far better than the Chinese springers. I'd say to the refund and take the R-9. JMO.

I sure like my B-26, and my Whisper belongs to someone else. No praise for Gamo here, but there are others who yell out loud about Whisper. Hard to say for sure.
I would suggest there are many better air rifles, and Gamo "support" has almost a zero rating. No parts, little service. If Bob's trigger was not available, there'd be a lot less Gamo fans.

Malcolm,  Good luck getting a refund.  If it happens, go buy a lottery ticket or have someone buy it for you as you will have defied all odds.  You may be 'married' to your Whisper now.
Can you ask straight up for a replacement rifle not repair the current one?  If so go for that.   Does Gamo state ' Repair or Replace'?  Do the tune after all other steps  have failed  and you are forced to keep the AG. You open it up and that will end  any  warranty

If all else fails have it tuned or do it yourself if you have the skills and a place to do the work.   I have a Big Cat that I 'tuned' a couple of weeks ago and it is like a different AG. Smoother action and not as twangy.  In fact the cocking was so smooth and quiet on the first time cocking the rifle I thought I had either broke something or had left a part out.

Stay on GAMO's case. If you are up for it.  In a letter mention that you are prepared to contact the Consumer Affairs Office of your state to file a complaint.  Be polite, but firm.

And the Beeman R-9? I want one too.
Gentleman of Fortune.

Sounds like you got a bad one, does happen I suppose. I didn't care for the factory trigger in my Whisper, so I installed a GRT-III. The thing is dead on, - and very easy to cock & shoot. The GRT_III is $32.00 - and a ten minute installation. However, if what you're looking for is a reason to return that one and buy another gun, - then why not do it?

The question there is "where did you buy your whisper?" Though Wally World is only in the business of selling stuff, their policy of no-questions-ask for return in case you are dissatisfied with any product you bought is sure is a better option. Dick's Sporting Goods also does that for 90 days. I had the same issue with my Gamo Whisper before and before I get into big headache when it comes to parts and service support I just simply returned it to Dick's and got my full refund. Bought one Big Cat which is a fine shooter but got a broken spring. Contacted Gamo and here comes another headcahe. Returned it to Wally World though I did not want to part with it and just opted to go back to a Crosman G-1 Extreme. I already had one before so I know what the G-1 is capable of. Now she's all dressed up with Delrin Guides, Maccari springs, full deburr, lubed and scoped.

Just as what the members said always be polite when negotiating with people. You are always a step ahead when you know how to speak properly with others. I sure do hope that you get your full refund 'coz I believe the R-9 is sure a winner for anyone. If a refund is impossible then your only alternative is to contact the good guys here and ask for a good tune so she can be a winner for you. Good luck bro'.
