.177 Talon w/ CO2 hi-flo valve & custom hammer weight
« on: July 01, 2009, 06:14:50 AM »
I installed the valve from a CO2 adapter & added a hammer weight made out of a bronze bushing from Ace Hardware.  I don't know the weight of it but it is 1/8" thick.  I also replaced the valve spring with a stiffer one from ace as well. Top hat set to .093

1st shot string:

PW- 10-12, 2500 PSI fill, Kodiak 10.6g

1136 1133 1132 1132 1122 1123 1114 1115 1103 1109 1108 1101 1096 1094 1089

880 877 872 874 869 863860 852 854 844
78 shots
end PSI-1100

Kodiak 10.6g, 2100 fill PW 5-14

803 804 809 811 815 831 833 812 812 816 825 824 825 828 847 850 845 863 891 885 886 897 897

964 968 957 964 960953 955 954 952 934 938 930 925 917 916 910 900 897 890 884 873 869875
 861 854 846
72 shots
end PSI - 1100

My goal is to start near 885 up to 950 & back down to 885 w/ 10.6g Kodiaks.  Then 16g Eun Jin's.  Which direction should I go from here? Increase PW setting @ 2100 PSI, higher fill & higher PW

I like low fill rates my self . If it were me I might try a 2000 psi fill with the P.W at the 2100 psi setting and see what happens . You can buy the .177 condor valve and spring set up to put in your tank as well from Air Force although this seems to be working well . When I did the chrony work of my .177 condor I left the P.W. on 1 and played with the fill rate with cph 10.5 and then used the P.W. to turn it up some for the 16 grainer's . Good luck and keep us posted .Marvin

I thought the valve from the CO2 adapter was the old Condor valve that had trouble filling to 3000 PSI?   I took out the weak spring & put in one as stiff as the one from the Talon .177 valve.  I'm getting ready to go test it more will report the finding later tonight. Scott

My last shot string from previous post has the wrong power setting.  It should have been 1-14.  Today I lowered the fill to 2000 & got these:

CPH 10.5g - 2000 psi fill, PW 4

923 928 931 933 945 957 955 982 988 978 991 993 1006 1026 1006 1005 1005 1001 1002 1000 997 995 988 991 990 984 986 975 970 969 968 965 954 951 947 940 936 935 931 918 925 923 918 913 908 898 892 896 892 890

50 shots - HI 1026, low 890

CPH 10.5g - 2000 psi fill PW 2-8

894 901 919 926 929 912 841 874 933 931 930 947 958 954 945 963 955 969 954 963 981 975 970 969 972 977 982 968 968 979 973 958 967 958 957 961 953 957 947 942 937 939 931 928 931 928 931 918 911 902 902 893

50 shots - HI 982, LOW 893

Should I try & lower the top hat a little to try & get more consistent shots or is this pretty good?  This is w/ an 18" barrel.

It looks good to me .I don't think changing the T.H. is going to smooth it out . Its not bad at all especially with that valve . When I changed a condor valve over to a talon the valve parts cost about $55.00 if my memory is right . Marvin

Marvin,
Thanks for the response.  I may call & get the .177 Condor valve spring as the one I put in was from Ace Hardware & a little longer than the stock spring but much stiffer.  Do you still have the Condor valve part you took out?  Scott

The stem has a slight bend in it .When I was able to buy 2 talon tanks for the price of one tank I did . I already had a talon tank so I just changed the one condor tank with the bad stem over to a talon tank for now . That way when I go to the range I don't have to take my scuba tank and I have all the tanks set to 1000 fps so I am set right now at that . I will in the future when I can swag heaier pellets convert at least two if not all the tanks over to condor again . The .177 Condor valve has a air restricts in it as well that you will want . Rachel at A.F. knows what you will need  if you call them . Marvin
