Whisper Venturi Problem Update
« on: July 06, 2009, 04:42:04 AM »
I called PA to and it seems there will be no help available short of buying a new piston assy.don't think so.I've got acouple of fix ideas rolling around. I took out the piston and seal. The seal had damage , I'll have to replace with a JM. I also found a extra part in the compression chamber, a C clip that left an imprint on the end wall just below the port. I can only guess how it got there. I am going to try to include some photos. Later John

How did the work on your rifle work out? I sent mine to Gene. He said the piston seal was all chewed up, and this is a new rifle. The chrony numbers are now all in the 950 range. I should get it back next week. I hope yours is shooting well. let me know. Good luck.

Paul

How did your rifle tuneup work out. I sent mine to Gene and he said my piston seal was all chewed up, and this is a new gun. It now shoots in the 950 FPS range. I should get it back next week. I hope yours has worked out.

Thanks for asking, Wellllll... it didn't go as well as I had hoped. I disassembled cleaned, installed a new seal from JM and put it together with high hopes. Well the gun just does not have the power it did before. I even took it apart again to see if I over lubed it. It seemed to pick up a touch of power but still not much. No chrony so I just go through my 30 yd steel bucket test. No holes like from my SS1K only dents. I think my AirVenturi cylinder may be at fault. I'm not sure if I want to refit with a spring and guide or save up for a new cylinder. Not a happy camper :0 . Oh well, I guess that's the way it goes sometimes. I'm sure glad it worked out for you, I kinda wish I didn't want to be so bold on the home repair, and sent it out. Happy shooting!  John :)

Sorry it didn't work out for you John. Sometimes trying to save a buck doesn't work. But like you I try to do many things myself. Thats why my kitchen is still in disrepair. I'll let you know how mine works outs out. It only cost me 13.00 to send it to Gene from Texas and Gene charged me 119.00 and his numbers are great. You can either send it to him, chuck the darn thing in a closet, or the trash, or try fixing it again your self....maybe next year! I'm really sorry your fix didn't work out. Mine never seem to either. I do love my Crosman Nitro tho, it does kick ass. If I can help you out some how, please let me know.

Regards,
Paul

I'm sending mine out to Gene tomorrow, both my .22 that's been giving me trouble and my fiance's .177 that uses the factory spring. The .177 works fine, but I'd like to see the difference a turbo-tune makes.

It should make one hell of a difference.  What he can do in 1 hr would take me a whole day. The numbers he sent me from my tune were so stable I couldn't believe it. MY Whisper .177  will be hitting 950 FPS with a 7.9 gr. pellet. I'll be using a heavier pellet I think, just so I can have a heavy hitter if I need one. If you need me to email you his report, let me know....and thats for anyone else too........just send me your email addy and I'll forward you his email to me.

Paul

Looks like the AV came apart?  I'm guessing the c-clip came off of the front end (the end where the chromed rod comes out) of the AV unit.  If so, that c-clip holds some of the parts of the AV strut together.  Do you have a pic of the front end of the AV?

The AV cylinder seems to be in good shape. I still have no idea where the clip came from ther than an "extra" part from the initial assembly. After resealing and lubeing the Whisper is shooting well. I think my scope toasted at the same time the other problems surfaced and that added to the frustration. I have to do the box test to see if the scope is really out of it. I just glad the rifle is shooting well now with the "iron " sights.

Glad that worked out for you. Genes tune made my rifle the way it should have been shooting all along. I 'll post numbers soon.
