Any E-Cigarette smokers out there???
« on: July 19, 2009, 09:33:23 AM »
I got an NJOY NPRO in the mail from my cousin on Tuesday and I LOVE it!!!

Looks like a Camel Wide 100. Plenty of "smoke" and it feels like the real thing. I have had a real cigarette since Tuesday night.

The great thing about it is, there's no REAL smoke. It's the same thing as fog machine fog. The cigarette is actually a small fog machine.

The ingredients in the refills are just distilled water, nicotine, flavoring and propylene glycol. No nasty tar or other carcinogens when it's vaporized.

I know what you're thinking "WHAT???? Smoke anti-freeze(propylene glycol) ???" but from the things I've been reading about, the amount of PG that's inhaled is MINIMAL and the body metabolizes it into lactic acid. PG is in lots of stuff that we eat, drink, put on out skin etc.

I smoked for many years,,,  tried to quite more times than I can count but kept trying...... finally managed to quit by going "cold turkey" but it was one of the toughest challenges I ever had.  It's been 10 years now since I had my last one.   Funny thing though,,,, every once in a while I still get the urge for a cigarette.  The urge goes away as quickly as it appears  but it convinces me that quitting smoking is like being an alcoholic in that once you quit you can never ever have even just 1.

I commend you for your efforts for as an "ex" I know how hard the fight is....   Keep strong and keep at it...... The final victory is well worth it as we all know....

I've tried Snus. I like it and iIt works to cure cravings, but it doesn't take care of the hand to mouth thing. It also doesn't provide the warm feeling of inhaling a good drag.

Here's a link directly to the NPRO on the NJoy website:
https://www.tscgrpsolutions.com/njoy/webstore/tsc_productlist.aspx?prodline=NPRO&proddesc=   NPRO%20STYLE&itemclass=STARTKIT&classdesc=Starter%20Kits

But from what I've been reading, there are better and cheaper alternatives to the NJoy products.
Most are from here: http://www.puresmoker.com

You can also find cheapies for about 10 bucks here: http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.14561
It's not the greatest kit, but the price isn't bad if you just wanna try it out.

Here's a good video demonstration of the NJoy stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XUD9lwgQYQ
They all work the same way, but there's always the quality issue. NJoy seems to be one of the better brands as well as the stuff on PureSmoker.com

I kicked the bad habit 17 years ago and no looking back. It's all about self discipline and self preservation. I used to smoke 3 packs a day in the 80's and bam I met my wife then my boy showed up. With my smokers cough and smokers smell... my conscience (wife) made me choose between family or my smoking so..we now  live happily ever after. I quit cold turkey and found ways to not smoke and not excuses. I still live with my number 1 rule, don't put that nasty cigarette in the mouth! ;o)

I hate to say I'm a quitter, but I also stopped smoking cold turkey. After the second time to the ER room for my son, the doctor said that the smoke on my clothes could be causing the asthma attack. I stopped that night. From Reds to Mediums to Lights to none. You really notice the smell of it when you quit.

I've been vaping now for about a week total and I can feel my lungs clearing out. Im the morning I cough up stuff that looks like it could walk away!

I know what you mean about smelling smoke! It almost smells wretched now. I tried smoking a regular cigarette today and had to put it out after the first drag... NAAAAAASTY!!!

Vaping seems to be a good thing! I do it about as often as a cigarette, but with no smell, no bad aftertaste....NONE of that stuff.

The thing is, I actually LIKE smoking. Well, maybe just the ritual of smoking. With vaping I can drop from full nicotine down to noting and still enjoy the ritual.

I am dragging up this old post to say "thank you" for bringing vaping to my attention. I didn't start as a result of this post, but I remembered it and made a mental note to look into it "someday".

That day came when little Heidi was born a month early, in mid-December. Frankly I didn't really want to quit, even though I only enjoy about every 10th "real" ciggie. But I didn't want to hold my baby covered with smoke residue, either.

I have been vaping since January. I mainly use Vapor 4 Life "Vapor Kings" (http://store.vapor4life.com/) andthey are quite amazing. It is supposed to be cheaper in the long run, and maybe they are. They are also kind of like air guns in that there is an active online community of hobbyists (http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/) who are into modding stock e-cigs. There are also a lot of rip-off vendors, such as those in malls, with high prices and inferior products.

The benefits are the elimination of smoke, and frankly, the ability to maintain the habit in a lot of places where you can't smoke (like airplanes). You still have the nicotine, available in many flavors and strengths. You can use this to quit, or to keep smoking with a possibly-healthier alternative. (Here in the alternative reality of Kalifornia we are moving toward outright prohibition of tobacco...yet we are going to vote on legalizing marijuana on the ballot this year).

Without really trying, I am down to about 3 analog cigs a day, mostly because I actually prefer vaping. This is after 40 years of pack-a-day plus regular smoking. It has just got to be better for your gums and lungs than smoke, and I find it more enjoyable. The Cuban Cigar flavor is nice for shooting. I still can't get past the first ciggie in the morning, and the classic smoke after a meal, although sometimes I just forget and reach for the vape. The biggest hassle is battery management, the equivalent of keeping air on hand for a PCP. Just like with airguns, this is solved with (you guessed it) more equipment. This stuff is a lot cheaper, however. ;-)

Yes, we all know we should quit... and if you haven't smoked, please just never mind. If you do, you might consider this option.

Retroactive thanks, Sam, and I have wondered if you stuck with it or not?

Good deal Dave, Sam, Geneand ALL of you for taking the initiative to stop the habit. I was a pack & a half a day smoker for MANY years. I too quit more times than I can recall. I hated the smell of my clothes, hair and breath. I counted ciragettes all day and planned how many I could smoke and when I HAD to get to the store to drop another $40 on a carton. I have no idea what they are now. Our youngest daughterwas diagnosed withCystic Fibrosis at 6 months of age and had the lungs of an 80 year oldby the timeshe was a teenager. My daughters and wife were constantly asking me to quit. I NEVER smoked in the house, caror anywhere around my daughter.

Cystic Fibrosis finally took her from us at the young age of 24. I only wish she had lived to see that her old Dad just up and decided one day to put the smokes down for good. I too did it cold turkey just one year after she passed away.11pm Tuesday 11 December 2003, I smoked my last cigarette. It was just time. No amount of complaining and begging will help. No facts or horror stories will do the trick either. You just have to decide for yourself and make the decision that you are through with them. I was really tired of smoking just before I went to bed and waking up to have a cigarette immediately. I was tired of the crackling sound with every breath when I laid my head down on the pillow to go to sleep. I still havethe urgefrom time to time, andcatch a whiff of smoke from a distance and it actually smells good. FROM A DISTANCE. Up close, it smells nasty. But the urge passes as quickly asit comes and get farther apart each time. And it gets easier each day.

You have to take it one hour at a time. Brag on yourself for each hour, day, week, month and finally YEARS that you go smokeless. If I can do it, anybody can. Like it's been said already, you are similar to an alcoholic. You can NOT take just one puff. This is what finally worked for me. Do not fool youself into thinking you need to take a puff to see hownasty (or good)it is, or telling yourself you can have just one. Your progress clock will start back over at zero if you do, so do not waste the time you have invested already. Just wait a minute and the urge will pass. Very soon it becomes a habit NOT to smoke and that's a GREAT thing. I've not had a smoke in 6 years, 3 months, 12 days and 23-1/2 hours. But who's counting???? LOL

Oh, and one other thing. When I quit the many times before, I always set a goal. I'll quit when I finish this pack. Or this carton. Or on this date. When I quit for the last time, it was just COLD turkey. I just stopped, no set goals to reach. And in the center console of my truck, I think, is still a pack with 6 smokes and my lighter. (can you image how nasty THOSE would be now?) That's what I had left when I decided I had my last one. I think the mental fact that I HAVE a cigarette available if I wanted made it work for me. Rather than having the nagging thought that I need to run to the store for a pack. Dunno, MAYBE it helped.

I commend ANYONE that takes the steps to quit. Ifit helps, usegum, pills, fake smokes or whatever, USE IT. Just don't worry about what everyone else says or thinks. It will work if YOU decide you want to stop. It will be well worth it for you and all your friends and family. Good luck to all of you, you CAN do it!!!!!

Sam,

Here's motivation for you...every day without a pack and a half of cigs is like saving for another tin of nice pellets!

Good luck with the quiting guys - been there. 1-1/2 pack a day for all too many years. Tried all the tricks back then, but none worked for more than a week or two. Finally cut back slowly to about a half pack a day over the course of a year, then went cold turkey.

Now, I'm watching the Girl Friend try everything, Nicoret, the patch, those plastic cigs, and the past couple of months, putting up with the side affects from Chantex. She's been trying off and on for a couple of years.  I mentioned that of all the people I know, the only ones I know who quit and stayed quit did it cold turkey. She finds ways to avoid that method saying she can't. I think that's part of the problem - looking for an easier way out, instead of just doing it, tells me she's not as fed up with smoking as she says she is.

Find the will power and you'll do it too.

Got a cure for that, - I remember when cigarettes were a penny a piece, and YES, you could buy one or two.
