Whisper Ammo
« on: July 20, 2009, 12:27:19 PM »
Is it just me or is most Gamo ammo inconsistent?  I was just shooting my new Whisper and getting used to the GRT III trigger and shooting a springer from the bench (MTM Predator-GREAT!).  I was getting a random pattern with 3 out of 10 in one hole and the rest all over the clock-as much as 1.5 inches.  I swapped to Hunters and it got much worse.  Magnums weren't much better.  Finally I got some Match and it went to shooting-5 in one hole.  I got back in the house and noted that almost all (except the Match) were worse than my first efforts at casting nearly 40 years ago.  I will try some old Beeman and H&N tomorrow and see.  This is one picky critter.

For shooting at 35 ft. (indoors) I've had excellent results with Gamo Match 7.71 gr pellets - and out doors at 25 - 50 yards with CHP's. ... This is with a Whisper with a GRT-III trigger.

I shoot a hammerli titan, but I've had about the same results.  Bought the gamo sample pack and the match are def the best in there.  The hunters would be next and the other two might as well be paperweights

I like the "hunters" too, - but didn't find them quite as accurate.

Just have the Gamo Match, Tomahawk and Rockets.  Haven't tried the others....    Match are the most consistant, Rockets are not bad but the Tomahawks are pretty bad....snug fit, very loose fit and break-a-nail tight.....which leads to bad groups/shots.  The Match have the softest skirts so I'm assuming the air blows them outward to give the pellet a snug fit in the barrel.  The other two have harder skirts....and they are  harder pellets......goes deeper than the Match.

I tried the Rockets in a walk about today-accuracy seems OK, penetration is great.  I still have to adjust the nut holding the stock quite a bit before giving any conclusions based on that.  I'll bench them sometime soon.  The feedback is great.

The little copper ball in front of the Rocket really helps with the penetration. Don't know about pellet expansion though.....that pellet's skirt is pretty hard......so I would think the pellet will just go right on through a critters body.

I hope so.  I bought them specifically for shooting the painted turtles that have taken over our pond.  You can't fish for them stealing your bait or eating your fish off the stringer.  I used to use powder for this, but things have gotten too crowded for that.

25 yards.  I need to do a bit of clearing to get 50.  I will probably do that this weekend barring more honey-do interference.

Mine shoots Predators quite well. It does well with the Rockets when I have a good batch. The last batch I bought had several deformed pellets and two .177 pellets mixed in (it was a tin of .22s). I ended up throwing them out. But otherwise they've done well by me. The Rockets hit with a wallop.

I believe I got a bad batch.  They had irregular skirts and were badly formed.  I do like the Rockets and will try them on turtles.  After I finish my mods and ammo testing, I'll post my findings in Reviews.
