Like to introduce myself
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:44:01 AM »
Go by the handle chortdraw. I am from north central AZ. I am a bow builder and also like shooting my pistols/380/9mm/45auto.
New to air guns and found this site. I have a Gamo whisper and a Daisy880 and have a Red Rider. I am a avid squirrel hunter and use a 1022 that is a tack driver. Thought it would be fun to hunt them with a pellet gun so I bought the whisper. Put the GRT trigger in and was pleased at the improvement. The whisper has been disappointing as far as the grouping goes so far. Going to try different pellets to see if it helps. I am an old fart and have hunted all my life and think I will enjoy being able to buy ammo a bit easier to find :)
Hope to learn what I can as long as the gray matter still remains in the old head.                 Dale

Hey Dale welcome aboard the GTA. One big family here and we love anything that spits lead..:) The Gamo Whisper is a great shooter when you find the correct pellet. They all differ so you might try buying a pellet sampler from Straightshooters. You will find there link in the GTA Mall above on the header. Look forward to seeing some hunt pictures and the stories that go behind the scenes..

Welcome to the Grand Order (Odor?) of the Ancient Flatulence!  I also have a Whisper and it is picky about ammo and how it is held on the bench.  Springers are very different from anything else in their firing behavior.  Try Gamo Match and Tomahawks.  I will have a report sometime on several brands.

The BEST Air Gun Forum on the Internet !!!!! And, IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO BE ! ! !! !

The pellets that most people find accurate are the JSB Exact, Crosman Premier Lights, Crosman Premier Hollow Point and Gamo Hunter. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but they work best in most air guns ! :o

Welcome fellow old fellow. We have to have a pole to see who is the oldest, but feels the youngest.

I suspect you should forgive Ronbeaux's Freudian slip.  I believe he meant "poll", not "pole", but if you do see him coming your way with any kind of pole, it may be well to keep your distance.  I am not exactly sure what he has in mind.

Welcome Dale. you will find plenty of post here for the Whisper. Some of us have had bad times with this rifle, and some of us have had great times with the whisper. Most times it's the luck of the draw. you can either learn to rebuild it your self or send it to Gene for a tune. Mine was very powerful but shooting pellets all over the place like a shot gun. I'll let everyone know how well it shoots when I get it back next week from Genes place. So pull up a chair and lets swap stories! :)

Thanks again for all the responses. I just sent for 2 more GRT111 triggers for a couple of my friends that are having the same problems with their Gamo's. They are also a couple of old farts that can't even turn on a computer so I thought I better help them out. They sure can do some great reloading though. Going to get some different pellets to try today so I will let you all know what my gun likes or not.
